Johnny Lewis (DJ)
Johnny Lewis (born 25 December 1958) is a DJ who has broadcast across numerous radio stations in his career including Radio Caroline and the KMFM stations. Early years Lewis was born in Ipswich, Suffolk. Originally deciding to become a farmer, he ended up at the Radio Caroline ship in 1977 to fix a generator. Due to seasickness by another presenter, he was asked to step in and began his career in broadcasting. Career Also worked in 1980 after the Mi Amigo sank on the Voice of Peace off Tel Aviv http://www.offshore-radio.de/VOP.htm Then from 1981 moving to Eire to work on a number of stations including Sunshine Radio and Radio Nova in Dublin, and Corks South Coast Radio. Back to sea in the mid 80's to help in the set up of Laser 730 later Laser 558. Ipswich
Ipswich () is a port town and borough in Suffolk, England, of which it is the county town. The town is located in East Anglia about away from the mouth of the River Orwell and the North Sea. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Radio Caroline
Radio Caroline is a British radio station founded in 1964 by Ronan O'Rahilly and Alan Crawford initially to circumvent the record companies' control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC's radio broadcasting monopoly. Unlicensed by any government for most of its early life, it was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such due to operating outside any national jurisdiction, although after the Marine Offences Act (1967) it became illegal for a British subject to associate with it. The Radio Caroline name was used to broadcast from international waters, using five different ships with three different owners, from 1964 to 1990, and via satellite from 1998 to 2013. KMFM (radio Network)
KMFM is a network of radio stations that was formed from the merger of seven Independent Local Radio stations and one digital station (on the Kent Digital Multiplex) owned by the KM Group, broadcasting to the county of Kent in the United Kingdom. Whilst the station broadcasts as one countywide station, it is officially eight separate licenses. KMFM offers its listeners local news and music. KMFM plays a mix of music, mainly covering the current Top 40 hits after adopting a contemporary hit radio format in 2012. The previous KMFM format had been aimed at an older audience. Heart Kent
Heart Kent (previously Invicta FM) was a local radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Heart network. It broadcast to Kent from studios at John Wilson Business Park in Whitstable. History Invicta in the 80s Originally, independent local radio in Kent was to be provided by two franchisees, one covering Maidstone and Medway, and the other covering East Kent. The companies that were awarded the licences to broadcast to these areas were Northdown Radio and Network East Kent respectively. The two companies merged on 26 March 1984. The company's new name was taken from a failed bid for the East Kent licence, owned by former Radio 2 presenter Desmond Carrington, Radio Invicta Ltd. Thanet is a local government district in Kent, England. Formed under the Local Government Act 1972, it came into being on 1 April 1974 and is governed by Thanet District Council.
