KMFM Thanet
KMFM Thanet is an Independent Local Radio serving the Isle of Thanet and the surrounding areas in Kent, South East England. It is the Thanet region of the KMFM radio network (owned by the KM Group), containing local advertisements and sponsorships for the area amongst a countywide schedule of programming. History KMFM Thanet began life as Thanet Local Radio (TLR 107.2), founded by Alan Mackay, Ken Wills and Pete Willson (now station manager at Academy FM (Thanet)), and launching in January 1998 from studios at Margate harbour. The launch was not without drama – four months prior, the Radio Authority gave the station the green light on the licence after some alleged internal legal wrangles between the company's directors. Margate
Margate is a seaside resort, seaside town on the north coast of Kent in south-east England. The town is estimated to be 1.5 miles long, north-east of Canterbury and includes Cliftonville, Garlinge, Palm Bay, UK, Palm Bay and Westbrook, Kent, Westbrook. The town has been a significant maritime port since the Middle Ages, and was associated with Dover as part of the Cinque Ports in the 15th century. Cliftonville is a coastal area of the town of Margate, situated to the east of the main town, in the Thanet district of Kent, South East England, United Kingdom. It also contains the area known as Palm Bay. The original Palm Bay estate was built in the 1930s as a number of large, wide avenues with detached and semi-detached houses with driveways, garages and gardens. This land was sold by Mr Sidney Simon Van Den Bergh to the Palm Bay Estate Co on 23 June 1924. Such avenues include Gloucester Avenue and Leicester Avenue. Myma Seldon (born 9 August 1979) is a British television and radio presenter and voiceover artist. Background Seldon was born Jemima Seldon on 9 August 1979 in Farnborough, London, England. Thomas Edward Lowe (born 21 August 1975 in Bexley, London) is a radio broadcaster in the United Kingdom. Tom currently presents on BBC Radio Gloucestershire. Tom started working for radio stations operating under a Restricted Service Licence, or RSL, including Thanet Local Radio (now KMFM Thanet), which was based in Ramsgate, Kent. Johnny Lewis (born 25 December 1958) is a DJ who has broadcast across numerous radio stations in his career including Radio Caroline and the KMFM stations. Early years Lewis was born in Ipswich, Suffolk. Originally deciding to become a farmer, he ended up at the Radio Caroline ship in 1977 to fix a generator. Nigel MacArthur
Nigel MacArthur, also known as Stuart Russell and Nigel Harris, is a freelance broadcaster in Kent on Radio Caroline, EKR and KMFM. Career MacArthur's first job was at the offshore station Radio Caroline in the late seventies, under the "Stuart Russell" moniker. The radioship, the ''Mi Amigo'', sank in a storm in 1980 putting the station off the air for several years. He returned in 1984 aboard the station's new ship, the ''Ross Revenge'', and adopted the name "Nigel Harris" a few years later. Like most Caroline DJs at the time he used an alias to ensure anonymity. He was on board the ''Ross Revenge'' for the collapse of its famous mast in a 1987 storm, and was filming inside the ship as the event took place. He was also there for the illegal British / Dutch raid which silenced the station for a while in 1989. Tony Blackburn
Anthony Kenneth Blackburn (born 29 January 1943) is an English disc jockey, singer and TV presenter. He first achieved fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s, before joining the BBC, on the BBC Light Programme.
