Ji Lee
Ji Lee is Executive Vice President of the Global Marketing Center at Samsung Electronics in Korea and former Creative Director at Facebook, Google, and the advertising agency Droga5. Lee's wide range of works covers the fields of advertising, graphic design, marketing, product design, street art, animation, installation, and video. Lee is known for his personal projects such as the Bubble Project, Word as Image, and Drawings for My Grandchildren, and has been giving public speeches on the “Power of Personal Projects.” Lee was named one of America's 50 most influential designers by Fast Company in 2011. Lee’s work has appeared in the New York Times, BBC, ABC News, The Guardian, and Wired. Lee's the author of four books. Early life Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1971. Droga5 is a global advertising agency headquartered in New York City with offices in London and Tokyo. History David Droga founded Droga5 in New York City in 2006. The Bubble Project
The Bubble Project, as proclaimed by its manifesto, aims to counteract corporate marketing and advertisement messages in public spaces. The project was conceived by Ji Lee, an artist and art director who originally printed 15,000 stickers that look like speech bubbles used in comic strips. He posts these blank speech bubbles on top of advertisements throughout New York City allowing anyone who sees them to write in their comments and thoughts. By filling in the bubbles people engage in the project and transform "the corporate monologue into an open dialogue". The Bubble Project quickly gained popularity and independent efforts have sprung up in other parts of the world in countries such as Italy or Argentina. Culture Jamming
Culture jamming (sometimes also guerrilla communication) is a form of protest used by many anti-consumerist social movements to disrupt or subvert media culture and its mainstream cultural institutions, including corporate advertising. It attempts to "expose the methods of domination" of mass society. Culture jamming employs techniques originally associated with Letterist International, and later Situationist International known as '' détournement.''
