Judendorf-Straßengel () is a former municipality in the district of Graz-Umgebung in the Austrian state of Styria. Since the 2015 Styria municipal structural reform, it is part of the municipality Gratwein-Straßengel. Gratwein-Straßengel
Since 2015 Gratwein-Straßengel () is a market town in the Graz-Umgebung District of Styria, Austria. The town took effect as part of the Steiermärkische Gemeindestrukturreform, Styria municipal structural reform, from the end of 2014 with the merging of the former municipalities Gratwein, Judendorf-Straßengel, Eisbach (Steiermark), Eisbach and Gschnaidt. The merger made the market town population to be the 6th-largest in Styria. A petition by the mayor of Eisbach, to the constitutional court, against the merger was not successful. Likewise a petition from the town Gschnaidt was not successful. Geography Municipality layout The town lies to the west (right) bank of the Mur (river), Mur River, about northwest of the Styrian capital Graz. The Pilgrimage Church Maria Straßengel () is a fourteenth century Gothic church located on a hill overlooking the market town of Judendorf-Straßengel in the district of Graz-Umgebung, a few kilometres northwest of Graz, Austria on the right bank of the Mur river. The town was first mentioned in the year AD 860 as ''Strazinolum''. The fourteenth century Gothic pilgrimage church was constructed between 1346 and 1355, and contains an important high altar. Once surrounded by fortified walls and guarded by a three-story tower (1355–66) with elaborate stonemasonry, the church still retains 77 sections of its fourteenth century Gothic stained-glass windows. Amalija Knavs (; July 9, 1945 – January 9, 2024) was a Slovene-American woman who was the mother of Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States. Early life Amalija Ulčnik was born on July 9, 1945, in Judendorf-Straßengel, Austria. She was raised there and in Slovenia, which was at the time part of Yugoslavia. Her mother, Amalija (), was a seamstress and farmeress and her father, Anton Ulčnik, was a cobbler and later a red-onion farmer. In her youth, she worked on her family's onion farm. From 1964 to 1997, she worked at a state-owned children's clothing factory where she created and monitored textile patterns. Knavs met her husband, Viktor, a member of the League of Communists of Slovenia in Sevnica in 1966. After marrying, they lived in Sevnica, Slovenia. Styria Municipal Structural Reform
The Styria municipal structural reform (German: ''Steiermärkische Gemeindestrukturreform'') was a local government reform in the Austrian state of Styria, which was made effective January 1, 2015. The reform nearly halved the number of Styrian municipalities from 542 to 287. The reform was intended to reduce costs and ease election of new town officials. The terms of the reform is formalized in the Styrian Municipality Structural Reform Act. (StGsrG). The law was adopted on December 17, 2013 by the , and promulgated on April 2, 2014.
