Juan Pablo Pernalete
Juan Pablo Pernalete Llovera (28 December 1996 – 26 April 2017) was a student and basketball player killed during the 2017 Venezuelan protests. On 24 May the Attorney General of Venezuela, Luisa Ortega Díaz, declared that an investigation by the Public Ministry concluded that Pernalete died as the result of the impact in his chest of a tear gas canister fired by a National Guardsman. While government officials and pro-government outlets initially alleged that Pernalete had been killed with a captive bolt pistol by fellow protesters, in 2021 Tarek William Saab, Luisa Ortega's successor, acknowledged that Pernelte was killed by a tear gas canister fired by the National Guard. Altamira is a neighborhood located in the Chacao municipality of Caracas, Venezuela. It has its own Metro Station, many hotels and restaurants, and it is an important business and residential center of the city. Óscar Torres (born December 18, 1976) is a Venezuelan former professional basketball player who last played with Marinos de Anzoategui of the Venezuelan League. A 6'6" native of Caracas, Torres played at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Professional career Torres became the first Venezuelan-born player in National Basketball Association (NBA) history, when he signed with the Houston Rockets, for the 2001–02 NBA season. Torres averaged 6.0 points over the course of the season, and scored an NBA career-high 28 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers, on December 11, 2001. The 2017 Venezuelan protests began in late January following the abandonment of Vatican-backed dialogue between the Bolivarian government and the opposition. The series of protests originally began in February 2014 when hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans protested due to high levels of criminal violence, inflation, and chronic scarcity of basic goods because of policies created by the Venezuelan government though the size of protests had decreased since 2014. David José Vallenilla Luis ( 1995 – 22 June 2017) was a Venezuelan student killed during the 2017 Venezuelan protests. Killing David Vallenilla was a graduate student in nursing. Son of David Vallenilla, who was the superior of Nicolás Maduro when he worked in the Caracas Metro. On 22 June 2017, Vallenilla was in a protest on the Francisco Fajardo highway, in Caracas, when a military official fired a shotgun at him from inside the La Carlota air base. Fabián Urbina ( 2000-19 June 2017) was a Venezuelan protester killed during the 2017 Venezuelan protests. Killing Urbina had been already wounded during a protest on 17 March near Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador in Maracay. On 19 June 2017, Urbina was participating in a protest at the Altamira distributor in Caracas when a National Guardsman fired a pistol at protesters, fatally wounding him and injuring five more. Xiomara Soledad Scott (died 16 July 2017) was a Venezuelan nurse killed during the 2017 protests in Venezuela. Neomar Alejandro Lander Armas (17 October 1999 – 7 June 2017) was a Venezuelan barman and protester killed during the 2017 Venezuelan protests.
