Óscar Torres (basketball)
Óscar Torres (born December 18, 1976) is a Venezuelan former professional basketball player who last played with Marinos de Anzoategui of the Liga Profesional de Baloncesto, Venezuelan League. A 6'6" native of Caracas, Torres played at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Professional career Torres became the first Venezuelan-born player in National Basketball Association (NBA) history, when he signed with the Houston Rockets, for the 2001–02 NBA season. Torres averaged 6.0 points over the course of the season, and scored an NBA career-high 28 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers, on December 11, 2001. He spent the next season with the Golden State Warriors, and averaged 3.1 points per game. The FIBA AmeriCup (previously known as the FIBA Americas Championship) is the Americas Basketball Championship that takes place every four years between national teams of the Western Hemisphere continents. Since FIBA organized the entire Western Hemisphere west of the Atlantic Ocean under one zone, countries from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. Through the 2015 edition, the Americas Championship took place every two years, and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA World Cup and the Basketball at the Summer Olympics, Summer Olympic Games. The Russian Professional Basketball Championship is the top-tier level men's professional club basketball competition in Russia. EuroCup Basketball, commonly known as the EuroCup and currently called BKT EuroCup for sponsorship reasons, is an annual professional basketball club competition organized by Euroleague Basketball. The league is regarded as Euroleague Basketball's second-tier professional basketball club tournament. Founded as ULEB Cup in 2002, the competition lasted until 2008 when a new competition was introduced after an agreement between ULEB and FIBA under the name of ''EuroCup'' for the 2008–09 Eurocup Basketball, 2008–09 season, following a change in format.
