José Agostinho Sequeira
José Agostinho Sequeira (born 7 June 1959), also known by his ''nom de guerre'' , is an East Timorese politician and former guerilla, and a member of the Fretilin political party. In 2006–2007, he was Vice Minister of Interior, and in 2017–2018 he was Minister for Defence and Security. Since 2018, he has been a Member of the National Parliament. Early life and career Sequeira was born in , in the then Lautém District of the then Portuguese Timor. He attended school for twelve years. During the liberation struggle against Indonesia, he was a collaborator of the chief of staff of Falintil and Secretary of Region IV. Lautém Municipality
Lautém ( pt, Município Lautém, ) is one of the municipalities (formerly districts) of East Timor, at the eastern end of the country. It has a population of 64,135 (census 2010) and an area of 1,813 km². Its capital is Lospalos, which lies 248 km east of the national capital, Dili. Etymology The word ''Lautém'' is a Portuguese approximation of the local Fataluku language word ''Lauteinu''. That word, in turn, is a portmanteau of the Fataluku words ''lau'' ('cloth') und ''tein'' ('sacred'), ie 'sacred cloth'. The Order of Timor-Leste ( pt, Ordem de Timor-Leste) is the highest honour currently awarded by East Timor. Established in 2009, the order was created after the original honours granted by East Timor. It is of a more general and broader nature than the original orders related to East Timor's independence. Francisco Guterres
Francisco Guterres, popularly known as Lú-Olo (born 7 September 1954), is an East Timorese politician who served as president of East Timor from 20 May 2017 to 20 May 2022. He is also the president of the political party Fretilin, and he was the first president of the National Parliament of East Timor from 2002 to 2007. As the Fretilin candidate, he stood in the 2007 presidential election and 2012 presidential election, but was defeated in the second round by independent candidates on both occasions. He also contested the 2017 presidential election, and with the support of former prime minister Xanana Gusmão and the CNRT, was elected the 6th president of East Timor. 2017 East Timorese Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in East Timor on 22 July 2017. Fretilin narrowly emerged as the largest party in the National Parliament, winning 23 seats to the 22 won by the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction, which had been the largest party in the outgoing Parliament. Background After the 2012 East Timorese parliamentary election, there was first of all a coalition of the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), Partido Democratico (PD), and Frenti-Mudança (FM).
