''Montreal Mirror'' or just ''Mirror'' was a free English language alternative newsweekly based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada which was distributed every Thursday. It had a circulation of 70,000 and reached a quarter of a million readers per week. First published on June 20, 1985, the publication became a weekly in September 1989. It was bought by media giant Quebecor in 1997. It was published by ''Communications Gratte-Ciel Ltée''. On June 22, 2012, Sun Media (the division of Quebecor that the Mirror belonged to) announced that the paper would be ceasing publication effective immediately. Dead Messenger
Dead Messenger is a Canadian power pop/rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They have released 3 albums, and their frenetic, high energy live performances have garnered them a reputation as one of the best live bands in Montreal. History The Band was formed in 2005 by Roger White (guitar, lead Vox) Ted Yates (lead guitar) Sebastien Marin (bass) and Charlton Snow (drums). In 2006 they released a self-titled album that was recorded by ex Planet Smashers Drummer Tim Doyl in Montreal and mixed by Jordon Zadorozny at his French Kiss Studios in Pembroke, Ontario. In 2007 Dead Messenger went on hiatus and Sebastien Marin left the band. In early 2008 the band reformed with Alex Chavel on bass and began working on new material. In the fall of that year they recorded ''Love Is the Only Weapon'' at Breakglass Studios in Montreal. Tricky Woo
Tricky Woo was a Canadian garage punk band, based in Montreal, Quebec. The "classic lineup" of the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Dickson, guitarist Adrian Popovich, bass guitarist Eric Larock and drummer Patrick Conan. Tricky Woo released music on Sonic Unyon, Estrus Records, TeePee Records, Triple X Records, Mag Wheel, Yeah Right! Records and Last Gang. According to Julian Cope's Head Heritage site: "Unfortunately, the band became the victim of bad timing. Starvin Hungry
Starvin Hungry was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto and later based in Montreal, Quebec. History Starvin Hungry was initially begun as a solo guitar and vocal act by John Milchem in 1995, performing original songs that drew inspiration from the Velvet Underground, Motörhead,'90s garage rock and early John Lee Hooker solo recordings. His twin brother Glenn, a local scene veteran and drummer for long-standing Canadian country-rock act Blue Rodeo, joined as a part-time member shortly after. In the years following Starvin Hungry alternated between a solo and duo live act in the Toronto bar scene, largely depending on Glenn's availability around Blue Rodeo's touring and recording schedule. Bionic was a Canadian alternative rock band, active from 1998 to 2007. The group was formed by Jonathan Cummins following the breakup of Doughboys."Bionic builds buzz while surviving life on the road". ''Calgary Herald'', November 22, 2002. The original lineup was Cummins on guitar, Sammy 'Bodega' Goldberg on bass and Alex McSween on drums. In 1998, they released the album ''Bionic''. Cargo Records reissued this album in Europe in 2001. McSween and Goldberg left the band and were replaced by bassist Paul Julius and drummer Tim Dwyer. They were also joined by Ian Blurton and, in 2002, released the album ''Deliverance''. The Besnard Lakes ( ) are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Formed in 2003 by the husband and wife team of Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, the band also includes Kevin Laing (drums), Richard White (guitar), Sheenah Ko (keyboards) and Robbie MacArthur (guitar). Two of the band's six albums have been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize.
