Dead Messenger
Dead Messenger is a Canadian power pop/rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They have released 3 albums, and their frenetic, high energy live performances have garnered them a reputation as one of the best live bands in Montreal. History The Band was formed in 2005 by Roger White (guitar, lead Vox) Ted Yates (lead guitar) Sebastien Marin (bass) and Charlton Snow (drums). In 2006 they released a self-titled album that was recorded by ex Planet Smashers Drummer Tim Doyl in Montreal and mixed by Jordon Zadorozny at his French Kiss Studios in Pembroke, Ontario. In 2007 Dead Messenger went on hiatus and Sebastien Marin left the band. In early 2008 the band reformed with Alex Chavel on bass and began working on new material. In the fall of that year they recorded ''Love Is the Only Weapon'' at Breakglass Studios in Montreal. Pop Montreal
POP Montreal is an annual music festival occurring in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in the early fall, usually at the end of September or the beginning of October. More than 400 bands are scheduled to play in more than 50 venues across the city, mostly located in the Mile End area. Along with music, POP Montreal has music-related film (Film Pop), art events (Art Pop) as well as a conference (POP Symposium) and a cultural fair called Puces Pop. The initial festival in 2002 saw 80 musical acts performing in 40 venues around Saint Laurent Boulevard. The name of the festival was inspired by the Halifax Pop Explosion. Laki Mera
Laki Mera are a three-piece electronic band, based in Glasgow, Scotland. History Formed in 2004 as a recording project by Andrea Gobbi and Laura Donnelly (formerly of God's Boyfriend), Laki Mera took their name from the Chimaera of Greek mythology. The lineup was completed with the addition of pianist Keir Long, cellist Trevor Helliwell and drummer Tim Harbinson. In December, 2007, the band announced that they would be offering their debut album, ''Clutter'', free for download prior to its official release. The album was critically well received. CKUT-FM
CKUT-FM is the official campus community radio station of McGill University. It can be heard at 90.3 FM in Montreal. CKUT's FM signal, broadcast from a tower on the top of Mount Royal, reaches as far as the Eastern Townships and upstate New York. CKUT is consistently voted as the Best Radio Station in '' The Montreal Mirror's'', " Cult Montreal" Best of Montreal Readers Poll. CKUT's programming is produced by more than 300 volunteers who are McGill students and members of the community. The station also employs a handful of full-time and part-time coordinators. The station's format is freeform in that each programmer is responsible for choosing music without regard to commercial interests. UnPop Montreal
UnPop Montreal was a music festival in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The festival typically occurs at the end of August or early September. UnPop Montreal started as a weekend long event featuring unknown bands. It has since grown into a two-week party known for hosting free live shows featuring some of Montreal's best-known underground bands - and a few underdogs. The name of the festival was inspired in reaction to Pop Montreal. Founding The first festival was in 2005, born from a rant in the local alternative weekly, The Montreal Mirror by Nathan Munn. Munn took issue with the common practice by other festivals (i.e. Pop Montreal and NXNE) of charging application fees to bands. He felt that many unknown or unpopular acts would be overlooked by the festival's selection committees. NXNE
North by Northeast (or NXNE) is an annual music and arts festival held each June in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The festival's main focus is live music, but it also includes an eSports gaming tournament, comedy, a conversations series, a flea market and more. The festival events happen in a variety venues with free events on Canada's largest street, Yonge Street with events on the Street and in Yonge Dundas Square. The Besnard Lakes
The Besnard Lakes ( ) are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Formed in 2003 by the husband and wife team of Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, the band also includes Kevin Laing (drums), Richard White (guitar), Sheenah Ko (keyboards) and Robbie MacArthur (guitar). Two of the band's six albums have been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize.
