Ontario North
Ontario North was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1925. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867. The North Riding of Ontario initially consisted of the Townships of Reach, Uxbridge, Brock, Scott, Thorah, Mara, Rama and Scugog. In 1882, it was redefined to exclude the townships of Reach and Uxbridge, and to include the townships of Morrison, Ryde, Draper, Oakley, Macaulay, Maclean and Ridout and the villages of Bracebridge and Cannington. In 1892, "North Ontario" was defined to exclude the township of Scugog, and to include the village of Beaverton. In 1903, it was redefined to consist of the townships of Brock, Mara, Rama, Scott, Thora and Uxbridge, the town of Uxbridge, and the villages of Beaverton and Cannington. The 1st Canadian Parliament was in session from November 6, 1867, until July 8, 1872. The membership was set by the 1867 federal election from August 7 to September 20, 1867. It was prorogued prior to the 1872 election. It was controlled by a majority coalition between the Conservative Party and the Liberal-Conservative Party under Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald and the 1st Canadian Ministry. The Official Opposition was the Liberal Party, led by Edward Blake from 1869 to 1871, followed by a vacancy in the Liberal leadership. Salisbury ( ) is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, England with a population of 41,820, at the confluence of the rivers Avon, Nadder and Bourne. The city is approximately from Southampton and from Bath. Berwick-upon-Tweed (), sometimes known as Berwick-on-Tweed or simply Berwick, is a town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, south of the Anglo-Scottish border, and the northernmost town in England. The 2011 United Kingdom census recorded Berwick's population as 12,043. The town is at the mouth of the River Tweed on the east coast, south east of Edinburgh, north of Newcastle upon Tyne, and north of London. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Brock, Ontario
Brock is a township in the Regional Municipality of Durham, Ontario, Canada. Brock Township is also a former municipality and geographic township prior to the amalgamation that formed the current municipality. The Trent–Severn Waterway forms part of the northern border of the municipality, which enters Lake Simcoe through Ramara Township. There are five locks in Brock. Thorah Island in Lake Simcoe is within the municipal boundaries of Brock. History The original Brock Township was surveyed in 1817 as part of York County and the first meetings were held in 1833. The township was named for Major General Sir Isaac Brock (1769–1812) whose estate received free land here for his service in the War of 1812. Ontario County was the name of two historic counties in the Canadian province of Ontario. Ontario County (1792–1800) The original Ontario County, located in the Midland District, was constituted in 1792 as an electoral district for the new Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada: In 1798, the Parliament of Upper Canada dissolved the county, and redistributed its territory to the following electoral counties and townships, effective at the beginning of 1800: Ontario County (1852–1973) On January 1, 1852 the old County of York was divided into three counties (York, Ontario and Peel); however they remained united. Cannington, Ontario
Cannington is a community in Brock Township, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. The town is on the Beaver River. History Originally part of the original Brock Township, (historic map) Cannington was first settled in 1833. It was first known as McCaskill's Mills after a local mill-owning family. In 1849, a post office was opened, at which point the settlement was renamed Cannington after former British foreign secretary and Prime Minister George Canning (1770–1827). Cannington separated from Brock Township in 1878 when it was incorporated as a Village. When Durham Region was created in 1974, Cannington was amalgamated with the original Brock Township, Thorah Township and the Village of Beaverton to create the newly expanded Township of Brock.
