Janet Mikhail
Janet Mikhail ( ar, جانيت ميخائيل; born 1945) or Janet Michael, sometimes known as Janet Khouri (جانيت خوري) is the former mayor of Ramallah in the West Bank. She is the first woman to hold this post. She was head teacher of the girls' school in Ramallah for 20 years, now retired. She is a Palestinian Christian (Roman Catholic). She was chosen as mayor on 29 December 2005 by the newly elected 15-member city council. She ran as a political independent (although some sources have associated her with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine movement), and was the head of the "Ramallah for All" independent list, which won six seats in local elections held earlier in December. The Fatah-associated "Homeland (Watan)" faction, headed by Palestinian Legislative Council member Ghazi Hanania, also won six seats, while the Hamas-affiliated faction of "Change and Reform" headed by Khaldoun Khader won three seats. Ghazi Hanania
Ghazi Hanania ( ar, غازي حنانيا) is a Christian member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. He is a member of Fatah. Dr. Hanania was elected as the deputy speaker of the first Palestinian Legislative Council. Born in Ramallah on August 3, 1945 to a Christian family, Ghazi attended Al- Al Ahliya School in Ramallah and the Coptic School in Jerusalem (Palestine). Palestinian Christians ( ar, مَسِيحِيُّون فِلَسْطِينِيُّون, Masīḥiyyūn Filasṭīniyyūn) are Christian citizens of the State of Palestine. The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) is the unicameral legislature of the Palestinian Authority, elected by the Palestinian residents of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It currently comprises 132 members, elected from 16 electoral districts of the Palestinian Authority. The PLC has a quorum requirement of two-thirds, and since 2006 Hamas and Hamas-affiliated members have held 74 of the 132 seats in the PLC. Ramallah
Ramallah ( , ; ar, رام الله, , God's Height) is a Palestinian city in the central West Bank that serves as the ''de facto'' administrative capital of the State of Palestine. It is situated on the Judaean Mountains, north of Jerusalem, at an average elevation of above sea level, adjacent to al-Bireh. Ramallah has buildings containing masonry from the period of Herod the Great, but no complete building predates the Crusades of the 11th century.
