Jan Tieleman Jacobus Cremer
Jan Tieleman Jacobus Cremer (born 28 March 1795 – 1 July 1832) was a Dutch colonial administrator on the Gold Coast. He was interim commander from 1832 until his death on 1 July. Biography Jan Cremer was born in Middelburg to Johannes Bernardus Cremer and Elisabeth Johanna Bogaerds. He was originally employed as a clerk in his native Middelburg, before opting for a career in the colonial administration. He was appointed assistant on the Dutch Gold Coast by royal decree of 14 January 1826. In 1828, he succeeded Jacobus van der Breggen Paauw as bookkeeper, secretary, fiscal and cashier. William I Of The Netherlands
William I (Willem Frederik, Prince of Orange-Nassau; 24 August 1772 – 12 December 1843) was a Prince of Orange, the King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg. He was the son of the last Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic, who went into exile to London in 1795 because of the Batavian Revolution. Friedrich Franz Ludwich Ulrich Last (born 3 January 1786 – 7 May 1833) was a colonial administrator on the Gold Coast. Biography Friedrich Last was born in Rostock to Johann Christian Last and Catharina Maria Deichman. He was appointed assistant on the Dutch Gold Coast on 1 October 1815, as part of the new colonial administration under governor-general Herman Willem Daendels, and became bookkeeper and cashier on 10 April 1821. Last served as interim commander between 31 August 1821 and 14 February 1822. During his term in office, on 17 January 1822, Kwadwo Akyampon arrived in Elmina, who was sent by Asantehene Osei Tutu Kwame to establish an Asante residency in Elmina. Eduard Daniel Leopold baron van Ingen (born 22 June 1799 – 16 March 1833) was a Dutch colonial administrator on the Gold Coast. He was interim commander from 1832 until his death on 16 March 1833. Biography Eduard van Ingen was born in Zutphen to baron Antoni Lucas van Ingen, a captain in the Dutch army, and Elisabeth Louise Heckers. Eduard van Ingen was appointed assistant on the Dutch Gold Coast by royal decree of 8 July 1828. He was promoted to resident on 1 July 1829. The Dutch Gold Coast or Dutch Guinea, officially Dutch possessions on the Coast of Guinea (Dutch: ''Nederlandse Bezittingen ter Kuste van Guinea'') was a portion of contemporary Ghana that was gradually colonized by the Dutch, beginning in 1612. Jacobus Cornelis van der Breggen Paauw (born 14 June 1797 – 19 January 1830) was a Dutch colonial administrator on the Gold Coast. He was interim commander between 1826 and 1828. Biography Jacobus van der Breggen Paauw was born in Amsterdam to Pieter van der Breggen Paauw, a Remonstrant minister, and Jacoba Cornelia Maas. Van der Breggen Paauw was one of the colonial administrators that accompanied the designated Governor-General Herman Willem Daendels during his journey to the Gold Coast in 1815. Dutch Cemetery, Elmina
The Dutch Cemetery of Elmina was constructed on the order of Governor of the Dutch Gold Coast Johannes Petrus Hoogenboom in 1806. Up until that date, the Dutch had buried their dead inside or just outside Elmina Castle, but by the beginning of the 19th century, little space was left there, so it was decided to construct a new cemetery in what was known as "the Garden" of Elmina. Ironically, Governor Hoogenboom was also one of the first people to be interred in the cemetery, after he was murdered by local Elminese people with whom he had a disagreement.
