Jackie Law Sr.
Jackie Law Sr. (died 1959) was a professional association footballer who played as a striker for Airdrieonians and Queen of the South. After spending five seasons with Airdrie, Jackie Law Sr. requested a transfer with Queen of the South the club to gain his services just after the club's George McLachlan managed tour to Europe and Algiers. Law was soon club captain and popular with fans. Like the rest of his contemporaries his professional football career was put on hold in 1939 due to World War Two. Post war, Scottish football on a national scale was resurrected in 1946, the year Law was given a testimonial by Queens. The testimonial match was against Preston North End at Palmerston Park. His last season at Queens was 1948-49 after which he retired from professional football. Law scored 71 goals for Queens placing him 14th on the club's all time goal-scoring charts. Airdrieonians Football Club is a Scottish professional football team in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, who are members of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and play in Scottish League One. They were formed in 2002 as Airdrie United Football Club following the liquidation of the original Airdrieonians club, formed in 1878. George McLachlan
George Hardie McLachlan (21 September 1901 – September 1964) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. He played for a number of amateur sides as a youth but began his professional career with Clyde in the Scottish Football League. He signed for Football League First Division side Cardiff City in 1925 for a fee of £2,000. He made more than 150 appearances for the side over four seasons in all competitions and was part of the team that won the 1927 FA Cup Final. In 1929, he was sold to Manchester United where he was later appointed club captain. He later played for Chester in 1933 before being appointed manager of French side Le Havre in 1934, where he also briefly played. He returned to Scotland in 1935, becoming manager of Queen of the South. He spent two seasons in charge of the side and also led the team on a 1936 overseas tour of France. Preston North End
Preston North End Football Club, commonly referred to as Preston, North End or PNE, is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England, who currently play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. Palmerston Park
Palmerston Park is a football stadium on Terregles Street in Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is the home ground of Scottish League One club Queen of the South, who have played there since 1919. South of Scotland League club Heston Rovers have shared Palmerston since 2013. The stadium has a capacity of of which 3,377 are seats. History Palmerston Park was first opened in 1919, when Queen of the South were formed, although football had been played at the site since the 1870s. The site of the ground was formerly a farm called Palmers Toun. This is on the Maxwelltown side of the River Nith in Dumfries. Lex Law
Lex Law was a former Scottish professional association footballer, who spent a decade with Queen of the South as an inside left. Queen of the South Lex Law is from a family with multiple Queen of the South connections. His father, Jackie Law, Sr, played for Queens in a war interrupted career from season 1937–38 to season 1948–49. Jackie Law, Jr was Lex's brother and played for Queens from season's 1962–63 to 1966–67. Lex Law signed for Queens in 1964 from Kello Rovers. Law was a strong running, versatile player who played in multiple forward positions. He played for the Scottish Professional Youth Team in 1965 v Italy and Yugoslavia in the UEFA Under Championships in Germany.
