The International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) is an international professional association of translators and interpreters based in Argentina. History Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, IAPTI was established on 30 September 2009, Saint Jerome's day. Created by a group of professional language mediators as a vehicle for promoting ethical practices in translation and interpretation and providing a forum for discussing problems typical of the globalized world, such as crowdsourcing, outsourcing, bad fee, rates and other abuse. Mona Baker (born September 29, 1953) is a professor of translation studies and Director of the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester in England. Career Baker studied at the American University in Cairo, where she gained a BA in English and Comparative Literature. Afterwards she studied applied linguistics at the University of Birmingham, obtaining an MA. In 1995 she moved to the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology where she became a professor in 1997. She currently holds the Chair in Translation Studies.
