Ibrahim Pasha Al-Dalati
Ibrahim Pasha al-Dalati (also known as Ibrahim Deli Pasha) was the Ottoman governor of Damascus Eyalet, Damascus in 1788. Life Ibrahim was a Kurds, Kurdish professional soldier who entered the service of the Azm family, members of which served as the governors of Damascus and surrounding provinces throughout the 18th century. He served a stint as governor of Tripoli Eyalet, Tripoli but his dismissal was engineered by the Acre-based governor of Sidon Eyalet, Sidon, Ahmad Pasha al-Jazzar. Ibrahim was appointed governor of Damascus in 1788. After his return from Mecca after leading the annual Hajj caravan that same year, the Janissaries of the Citadel of Damascus and the agha (title), aghawat of al-Midan revolted against him. He relocated to Hama where he rallied troops with the sanction of the imperial government in Constantinople and marched on Damascus with his mercenary troops, who included Druze from Mount Lebanon. Pasha, Pacha or Paşa ( ota, پاشا; tr, paşa; sq, Pashë; ar, باشا), in older works sometimes anglicized as bashaw, was a higher rank in the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman political and military system, typically granted to governors, generals, dignitary, dignitaries, and others. Al-Midan ( ar, حي الميدان) is a neighbourhood and municipality in Damascus, Syria, south of the old walled city and near the modern city centre. In the 2004 census, it had a population of 177,456. Today, the neighbourhood is often considered to be one of the most conservative in Damascus. Etymology The name Midan is derived from Midan Al Hassa ( ar, ميدان الحصى) or the field of gravel. The Citadel of Damascus ( ar, قلعة دمشق, Qalʿat Dimašq) is a large medieval fortified palace and citadel in Damascus, Syria. It is part of the Ancient City of Damascus, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
