Irene Eyaru
Irene Eyaru (born 23 October 1996) is an Ugandan netball player who represents Uganda internationally and plays in the position of goal attack. She is also the current national captain of the Ugandan national netball team. Career She made her international debut representing Uganda in 2015. She has been playing for KCCA Netball Club since 2014 and has also went onto captain the club. She was a key player in Uganda's historic gold medal-winning performance against South Africa at the 2018 World Netball University Games where hosts Uganda prevailed against South Africa under her leadership in a thrilling nail-biting entertainer winning it 44–43 in the end by the barest of all margins. She was named in the Ugandan squad for the 2021 SPAR Challenge Series which was held in South Africa and she eventually won the Best Shooter's plaque during the competition. Uganda National Netball Team
The Uganda national netball team represent Uganda in international netball. In line with other women's representative sports teams in Uganda, the netball team are known as the "She-Cranes". Uganda are currently ranked seventh in the INF World Rankings. History World Cups Uganda qualified through to the 2015 World Cup after qualifying via the African system where they defeated Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and Botswana along the way to finish on top of Africa and making it through to their first World Cup since the 5th edition which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. Uganda were drawn in Group D which had consisted of Fiji, Zambia and Wales. 2021 SPAR Challenge Series
The 2021 SPAR Challenge was the sixth edition of the netball Challenge Tournament organised by Netball South Africa. The series was contested by three South African teams (the senior national team, the national "B" team known as the President's XII, and the under-21 team known as the Baby Proteas), the Ugandan national team, and the Namibian national team. The tournament was originally scheduled to occur in January 2021, though it was postponed to March due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in South Africa. 2022 Fast5 Netball World Series
The 2022 Fast5 Netball World Series was the tenth staging of the Fast5 Netball World Series, and the seventh to be played under the Fast5 rules, which replaced the older fastnet rules introduced in 2009. The tournament was held in New Zealand for the fourth time. The host city Christchurch was awarded hosting rights for the 2022 and 2023 tournaments, with matches played at the Christchurch Arena. The 2022 tournament marked the return of this format to international netball since 2018, with a men's competition also held for the first time. Netball is one of the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham, England. This will be the seventh staging of netball at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998, and the second staging within England specifically. Peace Proscovia
Peace Proscovia Drajole Agondua (born 1 November 1989), commonly known as Peace Proscovia and nicknamed "Warid Tower", is a professional Ugandan netball player for Surrey Storm and the current captain of the Uganda national team. She began her professional career with Netball Superleague team Loughborough Lightning and has also played for Super Netball team Sunshine Coast Lightning. Internationally, she captained the Ugandan teams that won the 2013 Netball Singapore Nations Cup, and the 2017 African Netball Championship. Background and education She was born on 1 November 1989 in Arua, West Nile sub-region, in the Northern Region of Uganda, to a family with a total of seven children. 2023 Netball World Cup
The 2023 Netball World Cup will be the sixteenth staging of the premier competition in international netball, contested every four years. The tournament will be held from Friday, 28 July to Sunday, 6 August at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. This will mark the first time the tournament will be held in Africa. Organisation The host city and venue was announced by the International Netball Federation (INF) on 8 March 2019, only months prior to the staging of the 2019 edition in Liverpool, England. Cape Town's bid, supported by the South African Government and the Western Cape province, was selected by the INF ahead of a bid by Auckland, New Zealand.
