Ippudo
Ippudo, also known as in Japan, is a Japanese ramen restaurant chain with locations worldwide. Ippudo is well known for its tonkotsu ramen, and has been described as "the most famous tonkotsu ramen shop in the country". History Ippudo was started in Fukuoka by Shigemi Kawahara, the CEO of Chikaranomoto Company. "Ippudo" in direct translation means "one wind hall". This is because at the time, there were dark clouds over the Kyushu ramen industry, and the founder and CEO intended to "blow wind and revolutionise the era". The first restaurant opened in 1985, in the Daimyo District of Chuo Ward, in Fukuoka City. The Hilton Singapore Orchard is a 1080-room five-star hotel located at 333 Orchard Road in Singapore. History The hotel opened in 1971 as The Mandarin Singapore, occupying a single 36-storey block facing Orchard Road. Designed by Cyrus Casper Francis, it had 700 rooms. Atop the hotel was the ''Top of the 'M' '', the highest revolving restaurant in Singapore. European Union Council Directive 1999/74/EC
Directive 1999/74/EC is legislation passed by the European Union on the minimum standards for keeping egg laying hens which effectively bans conventional battery cages. The directive, passed in 1999, banned conventional battery cages in the EU from 1 January 2012 after a 13-year phase-out. Battery cages were already banned in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden prior to 2012. The directive does not apply to establishments with fewer than 350 laying hens or establishments rearing breeding laying hens. Such establishments are, however, subject to the requirements of Directive 98/58/EC. The directive is not supported with fines, penalties or export bans. As alternatives to battery cages, Directive 1999/74/EC allows non-cage systems and furnished cages. Furnished cages therefore represent a feasible alternative to battery cages in the EU after 2012.
