Iohanisfeld
Otelec (known as Ungureni in the interwar period; hu, Ótelek) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. Established in 1856, it was abolished in 1968 and absorbed into Uivar. It was recreated in 2008. It is composed of two villages, Iohanisfeld and Otelec (commune seat). History Otelec was first mentioned in 1452 as ''Feltelek'', when it belonged to Keve County. During the Ottoman period (16th–17th centuries) the locality was depopulated, and the uncultivated lands were transformed into swamps. It was not until 1793–1795, under the Habsburgs, that the settlement was re-established with families of colonists, mostly Hungarians, brought by Count Johann von Buttler from the southern counties of the empire. From 1856 it became an independent commune. At the same time, the first state school was opened (extended in 1885) and the construction of the Roman Catholic church was completed. Uivar
Uivar ( hu, Újvár; german: Neuburg an der Bega) is a communes of Romania, commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Pustiniș, Răuți, Sânmartinu Maghiar and Uivar (commune seat). Two other villages, Otelec and Iohanisfeld, which had been part of Uivar commune since 1968, were split off in 2008 to form Otelec commune. Name History Remains of Neolithic, Daco-Roman and medieval settlements were discovered on the territory of the commune. Archaeological excavations here revealed a Neolithic settlement from the 5th millennium BC that belongs to the Vinča culture. The first recorded mention of Uivar dates from 1811, when 50 German families were colonized here. Each family then received 32 jugerum, jugers of arable land. In 1851 a new wave of colonization took place, this time with Hungarians from the Szeged area and Germans. The commune is the rural subdivision of a Counties of Romania, county. Urban areas, such as towns and cities within a county, are given the status of ''Cities in Romania, city'' or ''Municipality in Romania, municipality''. In principle, a commune can contain any size population, but in practice, when a commune becomes relatively urbanised and exceeds approximately 10,000 residents, it is usually granted city status. Although cities are on the same administrative level as communes, their local governments are structured in a way that gives them more power. The Serbs ( sr-Cyr, Срби, Srbi, ) are the most numerous South Slavic ethnic group native to the Balkans in Southeastern Europe, who share a common Serbian ancestry, culture, history and language. The Reformed Church in Romania ( hu, Romániai Református Egyház; ro, Biserica Reformată din România) is the organization of the Calvinist church in Romania. The majority of its followers are of Hungarian ethnicity and Hungarian is the main church language.
