Hüntwangen-Wil Railway Station
Hüntwangen-Wil is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zurich. The station location straddles the municipalities of Eglisau and Hüntwangen, but takes its name from Hüntwangen and the adjoining municipality of Wil. In terms of railway geography, the station is on the Eglisau to Neuhausen line of the Swiss Federal Railway (SBB), which crosses the international border twice, travelling through German territory, on its route between the Swiss cantons of Zurich and Schaffhausen. The station is operated by the SBB and is an intermediate stop on Zurich S-Bahn line S9 between Zurich and Schaffhausen. Hüntwangen is a municipality in the district of Bülach in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Hüntwangen is first mentioned in 1254 as ''Hiuntwangin''. Geography Hüntwangen has an area of . Of this area, 50.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 32.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 13.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (2.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). The municipality is located on the western edge of the ''Rafzerfeld'', the region in the district which is north of the Rhine. Eglisau Railway Bridge
The Eglisau railway bridge, or ''Eisenbahnbrücke Eglisau'', is a single-track railway bridge which carries the Eglisau-Neuhausen railway line, Eglisau to Neuhausen line across the Rhine in Switzerland. Both ends of the bridge lie within the Eglisau, municipality of Eglisau and the canton of Zurich. Technical Details The bridge was built between the years of 1895 and 1897 by the Swiss Northeastern Railway at a cost of 980,000 Swiss francs. The bridge has a total length of and has a height of above river level. The principal span comprises a long and high iron truss bridge. Several natural stone masonry approaches with piers up to 50m in height lead to the bridge from the north and south of the steel truss. The original carriageway, consisting of a ballasted track on Zores iron profiles, was replaced by a steel trough with ballast in 1982/1983.
