Haji Husu
Haji Husu ( az, Hacı Hüsü, around 1830 – 1898) was a mugham singer. Biography He was born Husu Niftali oglu Kazimli ( az, Niftalı oğlu Kazımlı) around 1830 in Shusha. Haji Husu received his first education from private classes with a mullah. Then he continued his studies at a madrasa. A gifted singer, he studied traditional singing with Kharrat Gulu, one of the most prominent representatives of Shusha vocal art. Haji Husu's first public performance was that of the " Chahargah" in a charity event at the Khandamirov Theatre, following the performance of Sadigjan. He became a popular invited singer not only at weddings in the Caucasus, but also in several cities across the Middle East. In 1880, Iranian Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, the ruler of Iran, invited Haji Husu to Tabriz for his son's wedding. Mugham Singers
Mugham ( az, Muğam) or Mughamat ( az, Muğamat) is one of the many classical compositions from Azerbaijan, contrasting with tasnif and ashik. It is a highly complex art form that weds classical poetry and musical improvisation in specific local modes. Mugham is a modal system. Unlike Western modes, "mugham" modes are associated not only with scales but with an orally transmitted collection of melodies and melodic fragments that performers use in the course of improvisation. Mugham is a compound composition of many parts. The choice of a particular mugham and a style of performance fits a specific event. The dramatic unfolding in performance is typically associated with increasing intensity and rising pitches, and a form of poetic-musical communication between performers and initiated listeners. Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque ( az, Yuxarı Gövhər Ağa məscidi, Armenian: վերին մզկիթ) is a mosque located in the city of Shusha, Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The mosque also bears the name ''Boyuk Juma'' (Great Mosque) of Govhar Agha ( az, Gövhər Ağanın Cümə məscidi). Jabbar Garyaghdioglu
Jabbar Garyagdioglu or Garyaghdyoglu ( az, Cabbar Qaryağdıoğlu pronounced ) (31 March 1861 – 20 April 1944) was an Azerbaijani folk singer (khananda). He is known as the first khananda to perform mughamats in the Azeri language. He mostly sang in Azerbaijani and Persian. He was widely known both as a khanende and as a composer who performed both folk songs and his own song compositions, he was the author of new texts - tesnifs. His song "Baku" enjoyed great popularity in the 1930s-1940s. Jabbar Karjagdyoglu was also known outside the Caucasus. Seyid Shushinski
Seyid Shushinski ( az, Seyid Şuşinski), born Mir Mohsun Seyid Ibrahim oglu Shushinski (12 April 1889, Horadiz – 1 November 1965, Baku), was an Azerbaijani khananda folk singer. Early career He was born in the small town of Horadiz, near present-day Fizuli, Azerbaijan. He lost his father at a young age, and was raised by his aunt Meshadi Khurzad who was a folk singer. Shushinski received primary education at a religious school in his hometown. Thanks to his musical talent, he joined his first musical ensemble at the age of 15. He made his first public performance in 1908 in Shusha, which proved to be a great success and brought the 19-year-old singer big fame in the city. At his uncle's insistence, Shushinski completed another 2 years of musical education at Mir Mohsun Navvab's school and was recognized as a professional khananda. Islam Abdullayev (also known as Segah Islam) ( az, İslam Abdullayev, December 1876 — 22 September 1964) was an Azerbaijani khananda, Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR. Biography Islam Abdullayev was born in December, 1876 in Shusha. He received his first education in Shusha. In the history of Azerbaijani music, Islam Abdullayev is known as a unique performer of the Segah mugham. Music scientist Mir Mohsun Navvab, who created the "Gathering of Singers" in Shusha in 1883 invited I.Abdullayev to this assembly.
