Seyid Shushinski
Seyid Shushinski ( az, Seyid Şuşinski), born Mir Mohsun Seyid Ibrahim oglu Shushinski (12 April 1889, Horadiz – 1 November 1965, Baku), was an Azerbaijani khananda folk singer. Early career He was born in the small town of Horadiz, near present-day Fizuli, Azerbaijan. He lost his father at a young age, and was raised by his aunt Meshadi Khurzad who was a folk singer. Shushinski received primary education at a religious school in his hometown. Thanks to his musical talent, he joined his first musical ensemble at the age of 15. He made his first public performance in 1908 in Shusha, which proved to be a great success and brought the 19-year-old singer big fame in the city. At his uncle's insistence, Shushinski completed another 2 years of musical education at Mir Mohsun Navvab's school and was recognized as a professional khananda. Mugham Singers
Mugham ( az, Muğam) or Mughamat ( az, Muğamat) is one of the many classical compositions from Azerbaijan, contrasting with tasnif and ashik. It is a highly complex art form that weds classical poetry and musical improvisation in specific local modes. Mugham is a modal system. Unlike Western modes, "mugham" modes are associated not only with scales but with an orally transmitted collection of melodies and melodic fragments that performers use in the course of improvisation. Mugham is a compound composition of many parts. The choice of a particular mugham and a style of performance fits a specific event. The dramatic unfolding in performance is typically associated with increasing intensity and rising pitches, and a form of poetic-musical communication between performers and initiated listeners. Horadiz
Horadiz is a city and municipality in the Fuzuli District of Azerbaijan, located on the left bank of the Aras river. As of 2019, it had a population of 7,600 people. History During the Russian Empire, the village of Horadiz was part of the Jebrail Uyezd of Elisabethpol Governorate. According to the "Caucasian calendar" of 1912, the village had 1,424 inhabitants, the majority of whom were Azerbaijanis, who were listed as "Tatars" in the calendar. Horadiz was designated as an urban-type settlement on 24 September 1947. It had a population of 5,689 people according to the 1989 Soviet census. During the First Nagorno-Karabakh war the village became the scene of fierce fighting. On 24 October 1993, the village of Horadiz was captured by Armenian forces, which was condemned by UN Security Council Resolution No. 884 of 12 November 1993 and labelled as an occupation. Jahan Talyshinskaya
Jahan Mir Rzakhan qizi Talyshinskaya ( az, Cahan Talışinskaya) (9 February 1909 in Lankaran – 1 March 1967 in Baku) was an Azerbaijani folk singer and theatre actress. Early career Born in Lankaran to a wealthy noble family, from her maternal side, she was the niece of general Samad bey Mehmandarov. Talyshinskaya first studied at Maryam Bayramalibeyova's Uns School for Girls, and moved to Baku at the age of nine to attend the Azerbaijani Girls Seminary. While residing at her older sister Bilgeys's house, she learned how to play the piano and the tar with no professional instruction. Her exceptional ear for music and voice was quickly gaining her fame as an amateur mugham singer and in 1934, she became a soloist at the Azerbaijan Philharmonic Society.
