Hyjak
Hyjak N Torcha is an Australian hip hop group from Sydney, New South Wales. Biography The group formed in 2000, consisting of Hyjak (Jack McCarthy), Torcha (John Chmielewski), and DJ Bonez (George Kordas). Hyjak first appeared on the scene in 1998, at the age of fifteen he snuck into a pub in the Sydney suburb of Kings Cross to compete in a rap battle, which he won. Torcha, hailing from Sydney's west, was an active volunteer youth worker, doing programs in youth prisons and performing at anti-war rallies. Formally part of Sydney's Eth-nik Tribe, another Australian hip hop group. Hyjak N Torcha signed to Obese Records and their first album ''Drastik Measures'' was released in 2004. "Sneak", a single from that album, received airplay on Triple J and the video clip was played on '' rage''. The album was reviewed on Triple J's website. The Calling (Hilltop Hoods Album)
''The Calling'' is the third studio album by Australian hip hop group Hilltop Hoods and was released on 22 September 2003 through Obese Records. The success of the album was significant in the Australian hip hop scene because it demonstrated popular recognition for a genre previously supported by a comparatively small, "underground" fan base. Three singles were released as single and two placed in the 2003 Triple J Hottest 100 chart: "The Nosebleed Section" was voted into ninth place, while " Dumb Enough" was voted into position 44. Reception In an interview after the release of their fourth album, Suffa revealed that ''The Calling'' was recorded on his mother's computer and the simplicity of their 'studio' is the reason why some of the music on the album is in monaural ('mono') sound. DJ Bonez
George Kordas, better known by the stage name DJ Bonez, is a hip hop DJ and producer, originally from Sydney and currently based in Melbourne, Australia. DJ Bonez has been described as being at "the forefront of Australian DJing culture as a performer and also catering to DJs worldwide with break beats and scratch records". Career Bonez began creating four-track mix tapes and CDs for the underground hip-hop scene in the late 1980s, while studying at high school. By the age of 17, hands, he had expanded his skills and started performing as a club and scratch DJ in venues across Australia. In 1995, Bonez made the transition to producer. Having honed his skills as a DJ, he performed turntable trick routines and began producing battle records. Obese Records was a record label that released music from the Australian hip hop genre. It was the largest Australian independent hip hop label, including performers Pegz, Thundamentals and Dialectrix. Obese Records also operated two retail stores in Melbourne, a record distribution company, a soul imprint named Plethora Records, and operates the artists' management and touring company Obese Records Artist Management. History Founding as OB's record store Obese Records was founded in 1995 as a small record store called OB's by Ollie Bobbitt, in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran. Specialising in hip hop music, the store changed its name to "Obese Records" after Bobbitt sold the business to Shazlek One. Bliss n Eso (formerly known as Bliss n' Esoterikizm) are an Australian hip hop trio based in Sydney.
