The Hot 8 Brass Band is a New Orleans, Louisiana, New Orleans-based brass band that blends Hip hop music, hip-hop, jazz and funk styles with traditional Brass band#New Orleans, New Orleans brass sounds. It was formed by Bennie Pete, Jerome Jones, and Harry Cook in 1995,Brass Band Blowout Weekend: April 11, 2008 from the Tipitina's website the merging of two earlier bands, the Looney Tunes Brass Band and the High Steppers Brass Band. Ashley Morris (blogger)
Hinton Ashley Morris (October 20, 1963 – April 2, 2008) was an American cultural and political blogger and a professor of computer science at DePaul University in Chicago. He was a prolific blogger, commenting on New Orleans culture and politics, often critical of the status quo. He became popular through a series of post-Katrina blog posts that dealt with the destruction caused by the hurricane and the efforts to rebuild New Orleans. One post in particular, entitled "Fuck You You Fucking Fucks" earned Morris a great deal of notoriety and inspired an "FYYFF" T-shirt. Morris was an accomplished musician, playing guitar, bass, keyboards, and percussion. He was a member of the Sky Ryders Drum & Bugle Corps. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (commonly called Jazz Fest or Jazzfest) is an annual celebration of local music and culture held at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jazz Fest attracts thousands of visitors to New Orleans each year. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation Inc., as it is officially named, was established in 1970 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (NPO). The Foundation is the original organizer of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell Oil Company, a corporate financial sponsor. The Foundation was established primarily to redistribute the funds generated by Jazz Fest into the local community. Thomas Joyner (born November 23, 1949) is an American retired radio host, former host of the nationally syndicated '' The Tom Joyner Morning Show'', and also founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Early life Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, the son of Frances and Hercules L. Joyner. Tom came from an educated family: his grandfather Oscar was one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States, earning a degree in medicine in 1909.
