Hellefjord
Hellefjord is a fjord in King Frederick VIII Land, northeastern Greenland. Dove Bay
Dove Bay ( da, Dove Bugt) is a bay in King Frederick VIII Land, northeastern Greenland. It is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park area. Mørkefjord
Mørkefjord, meaning in Danish "The dark fjord," is a fjord in King Frederick VIII Land, northeastern Greenland. History Mørkefjord was named by the 1906-1908 Denmark expedition, which established a second weather station at Mørkefjord, in order to compare meteorological observations data with those taken at Danmarkshavn . It had also been known as ''Vigfusdalfjord''. The 1938–1939 Mørkefjord expedition was named after it. They built their base hut and repaired their ship "Gamma" at a place by the fjord's shores. The Greenland Sea is a body of water that borders Greenland to the west, the Svalbard archipelago to the east, Fram Strait and the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Norwegian Sea and Iceland to the south. King Frederick VIII Land
King Frederick VIII Land ( da, Kong Frederik VIII Land) is a major geographic division of northeastern Greenland. It extends above the Arctic Circle from 76°N to 81°N in a N/S direction along the coast of the Greenland Sea. History This vast desolate region was still uncharted territory around 1900. Denmark Expedition
The Denmark expedition ( da, Danmark-ekspeditionen), also known as the Denmark Expedition to Greenland's Northeast Coast, and as the Danmark Expedition after the ship, was an expedition to the northeast of Greenland in 1906–1908. Despite being overshadowed by the death in tragic circumstances of the main exploration team, including three of the expedition's leading members: Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen (1872–1907), Niels Peter Høeg Hagen (1877–1907) and Jørgen Brønlund (1877–1907), the Denmark expedition was not a failure. Danmarkshavn (Denmark's Harbour) is a small weather station located in Dove Bay, on the southern shore of the Germania Land Peninsula, in Northeast Greenland National Park, Greenland. History The location was chosen as a suitable winter harbor by the Denmark expedition in 1906 for their ship ''Danmark''. It became the main base of the expedition, from where sledge journeys and scientific observations were carried out. Description The permanent population of the base is six. Sælsøen
Seal Lake ( da, Sælsøen), also known as Sael Lake, Saelso, Saelsöen and Sælsø, is a land-locked freshwater fjord in southern King Frederick VIII Land, in Greenland's northeastern coast. The Danish weather station Danmarkshavn —the only inhabited place in the area— lies about to the east. The lake and its surroundings are part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. The Seal Lake was named by the Denmark expedition to East Greenland 1906–1908. It was named after a seal which expedition members allegedly had seen swimming in it. Captain Alf Trolle reported, however, that the original name had been Store Sø (Big Lake) or Lakse Sø (Salmon Lake). Geography Seal Lake is a lake with a fjord structure.
