Heikki Orvola
Heikki Orvola (born November 29, 1943 in Helsinki) is a Finnish designer and planner. He started his career as a designer in the 1960s. In 1968, he started to work at the Nuutajärvi glassworks. In 1972, he designed the ''Aurora'' set of glasses for Iittala. With Fujiwo Ishimoto he designed the ''Illusia'' tableware for Arabia Ceramics Factory. In the 1980s, Orvola designed for Marimekko. In 1987, he designed the candleholder ''Kivi'', which is still in production today at Iittala. In 1998, he designed the ''Verna'' goblet, as well as a set of glasses called ''Palazzo'' for Iittala. His design work can be found in Finnish museums as well as abroad. Iittala
Iittala, founded as a glassworks in 1881, is a Finnish design brand specialising in design objects, tableware and cookware. Iittala's official i-logo was designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1956. Arabia (brand)
Arabia is a Finnish ceramics company, founded in 1873 by Rörstrand, and currently owned by Fiskars. Arabia has specialized in kitchenware and tableware. The original Arabia porcelain factory was located in Toukola (Helsinki). It later housed the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Ulla Procopé, Esteri Tomula and Kaj Franck were among the best-known artists and designers for the company. In 2016 the Arabia factory in Finland closed. All Arabia products are now made in Thailand and Romania. Marimekko
Marimekko Oyj is a Finnish textiles, clothing, and home furnishings company founded by Viljo and Armi Ratia in Helsinki in 1951. Marimekko made important contributions to fashion in the 1960s. It is particularly noted for its brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women's garments and in home furnishings. Two designers in particular, Vuokko Nurmesniemi, with bold stripes, and Maija Isola, with large simple flowered prints such as the ''Unikko'' poppy, created hundreds of distinctive patterns and helped to make Marimekko a household name across the world. Etymology The co-founder, Armi Ratia, first considered ''Armi'' as the company's name, but it was already registered. The Order of the Lion of Finland ( fi, Suomen Leijonan ritarikunta; sv, Finlands Lejons orden) is one of three official orders in Finland, along with the Order of the Cross of Liberty and the Order of the White Rose of Finland.
