Hansen (surname)
Hansen or Hanssen () is a Scandinavian patronymic surname, meaning ''son of Hans''. As of 2008, it is the third most common surname in Denmark, shared by 4.3% of the population. As of 2000, ''Hansen'' is the single most common surname in Norway, not counting spelling variations such as ''Hanssen'', which are also quite common. In the Faroe Islands ''Hansen'' is the second most common surname, while in the North German federal states of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg ''Hansen'' is the third and fifth most common surname, respectively. In Sweden the parallel form is '' Hansson''. The frequent occurrences of Hansen as a surname outside Denmark, Norway and Schleswig-Holstein is due to immigration, though Nordic immigrants to English-speaking countries often anglicised their names to Hanson in order to accommodate English orthographic rules. Anna Lise Hansen MBE is a Canadian-born chef, who was raised in New Zealand and now runs The Modern Pantry in London, United Kingdom. Culinary career Anna Hansen was born in Canada to parents who were originally from New Zealand but with European heritages. Alfred Earl "Al" Hansen (5 October 1927 – 20 June 1995) was an American artist. He was a member of Fluxus, a movement that originated on an artists' collective around George Maciunas. He was the father of Andy Warhol protégé Bibbe Hansen and the grandfather and artistic mentor of rock musician Beck and artist Channing Hansen. Southern Norway
Southern Norway ( no, Sørlandet; lit. "The Southland") is the geographical region (''landsdel'') along the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway. The region is an informal description since it does not have any governmental function. It roughly corresponds to the old petty kingdom of Agder as well as the two former counties of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder. From New Year 2020, the two counties have been merged into one county, Agder. The total combined area of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties is . The name is relatively new, having first been used in Norway around 1900.
