Halley (song)
Turkey was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, held in Bergen, Norway. They were represented by "Halley" performed by the quintet Klips ve Onlar (Sevingül Bahadır, Gür Akad, Emre Tukur, Derya Bozkurt and Seden Kutlubay). The song was composed by Melih Kibar with lyrics by İlhan İrem. Before Eurovision 10. Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması Türkiye Finali The final took place on 15 March 1986 at the Ari TV studios in Ankara, hosted by Erkan Yolaç. Four songs competed and the winner was determined by a sixteen-member jury. As there was a tie at the end of the voting, the head of the jury ended up having his vote counted twice, resulting in the victory of "Halley" performed by Klips ve Onlar. At Eurovision Klips ve Onlar performed eighth on the night of the contest, following the Netherlands and preceding Spain. Klips ve Onlar was a Turkish band of the 1980s. They represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 with the song ''Halley'' which reached 9th position, the highest ever for the country until then. Nilüfer (singer)
Nilüfer Yumlu (born 31 May 1955), commonly known as Nilüfer, is a Turkish pop singer. In 1992, one of her biggest hits, "Show Yapma", was included in the album ''Yine Yeni Yeniden''. Turkey has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 34 times since its debut in 1975. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in , Turkey has only failed to qualify for the final once, in . Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1997. The country was represented by Şebnem Paker and Grup Etnic with the song "Dinle" written by Mehtap Altıntemiz and composed by Levent Çoker. Both Şebnem Paker and Levent Çoker had represented Turkey in the contest of the preceding year. Before Eurovision 20. Candan Erçetin
Candan Erçetin (; born 10 February 1961) is a Turkish people, Turkish singer-songwriter. Over the twenty five years of her singing career, she has been recognized for preparing and singing songs about human life. Despite the fact that she made her albums without much publicity, her work influenced other artists. Erçetin has released many music videos with different themes. Because her family originate from the Balkans, she has often used elements of Balkan music in her songs and works. In addition to Turkish, she has written songs in French and Greek. Erçetin was born in Kırklareli, and is of Albanians, Albanian and Macedonians (ethnic group), Macedonian descent. She later moved to Istanbul and attended Galatasaray High School. Fikret Şeneş
Fatma Fikret Şeneş (1921 – 16 February 2015) was the first Turkish female songwriter. By writing over 290 songs, she hugely contributed to the Turkish pop music. Her songs attracted great interest. Career In the mid-1950s, Fikret Şeneş, who was in her early 30s, wrote her first lyrics for Erol Büyükburç, took vocal lessons and played the piano. In the late 1960s, "İki Yabancı" became the first Turkish song written by Şeneş. She then wrote hundreds of songs for popular artists in Turkey. Personal life Fikret Şeneş's mother, Calibe, together with her husband chose their surname Şeneş as the Surname Law (Turkey), Surname Law was enforced in Turkey. Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. in 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. Biography Born in Istanbul, he graduated from the German High School Istanbul and studied chemical engineering at Boğaziçi University. Seyyal Taner
Seyyal Taner (born September 28, 1952) is a Turkish singer and actress. Early life and career beginnings Taner was born in Şanlıurfa, Turkey and later moved to Istanbul with her family. She graduated from the Amerikan Kız Lisesi. She received vocal training from Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu in 1965 and started to sing as an amateur with the Kanat Gür Orkestrası. In 1968 Los Bravos played in Istanbul and, having caught her act, offered Taner a role in a Spanish musical. Whilst promoting in Spain, she attracted the attention of Paramount Pictures and was offered a small part in ''Villa Rides''.
