''Haircut'' ( pt, Corte de Cabelo) is an independent Portuguese drama film directed by Joaquim Sapinho, produced at Rosa Filmes, which was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the 1995 Locarno International Film Festival. Reception Being nominated for the Golden Leopard at the 1995 Locarno International Film Festival, ''Haircut'' also won the award for best film at the 1996 Angers European Film Festival, and the Best Actress Award for Carla Bolito at the ''Geneva Film Festival''. In its home country, ''Haircut'' was highly acclaimed both by the critic and by the audience in an unprecedented way for Portugal. It was considered the best depiction of the Portuguese youth of the nineties captured on film. The Brazilian newspaper ''Estado de São Paulo'' called it the first post-modern Portuguese film. Joaquim Sapinho
Joaquim Sapinho (born 1965 at Sabugal, Portugal) is a Portuguese film director. Founder of production company Rosa Filmes, he is considered to be part of ''The School of Reis'' film family. Career Joaquim Sapinho was a student at the Portuguese National Film School (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema), where he was a student of António Reis, Paulo Rocha (film director), Paulo Rocha and Alberto Seixas Santos, and where he is nowadays a professor of directing for cinema. He started as a documentarist for television, before directing his first feature. In 1995, with his first picture, ''Haircut (film), Haircut'', he gave us a rare glimpse of the Portuguese youth of the 90's, being nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. Working also as a producer and screenwriter, Sapinho is the founder and owner of the independent production company Rosa Filmes, which brought to light other directors as João Pedro Rodrigues and Manuela Viegas. Manuela Viegas
Manuela Viegas (born 13 October 1957) is a Portuguese film editor and director. She is considered to be part of '' The School of Reis'' film tradition. An influential film editor since the 1970s, she has edited dozens of films, among them Pedro Costa's '' Blood'', Joaquim Sapinho's '' The Policewoman'' and João César Monteiro's ''Silvestre'' and ''À Flor do Mar''. In 1999, she directed her first and only feature film to date, ''Gloria'', which was part of the official competition of the 49th Berlin International Film Festival, being the only Portuguese film to feature click on " ''ENG''", then on "''DIRECTORS''", then on "''JOAQUIM SAPINHO''" until '' Tabu'' was selected in 2012.

A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. Locarno International Film Festival
The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programs. The Piazza Grande section is held in an open-air venue that seats 8,000 spectators. The top prize of the festival is the Golden Leopard, awarded to the best film in the International Competition. Expressionist architecture was an architectural movement in Europe during the first decades of the 20th century in parallel with the expressionist visual and performing arts that especially developed and dominated in Germany.
