Hacheston Halt railway station was a station located in Hacheston, Suffolk situated on the Framlingham Branch. The branch was opened in 1859, but Hacheston Halt was not opened until 1922 in an attempt by the Great Eastern Railway to improve the passenger receipts on the branch.Great Eastern Railway Society Journal 131 pages 130-137 Stanley C Jenkins (July 2007) Hacheston Halt was a very basic station and did not even possess a platform so passengers had to use a ladder to get on and off the trains that called at the station. Hacheston
Hacheston is a village and a civil parish in the East Suffolk district, in the English county of Suffolk. The population of the parish at the 2011 census was 345. It is located on the B1116 road between the towns of Wickham Market and Framlingham. Hacheston has a church and a village hall. Hacheston Halt railway station was closed in 1952. Glevering Hall is a historic house and estate within the parish which was built in 1794 by Chaloner Arcedeckne, MP. Glevering Hall became a Grade II* listed building on 25 October 1951. Governance An electoral ward in the same name exists. This ward stretches north to Bruisyard with a total population taken at the 2011 Census of 1,977. East Suffolk (district)
East Suffolk is a local government district in Suffolk, England, which was established on 1 April 2019, following the merger of the existing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney districts. At the 2011 census, the two districts had a combined population of 239,552. The main towns and villages in the district include Aldeburgh, Beccles, Bungay, Felixstowe, Framlingham, Halesworth, Leiston, Lowestoft, Saxmundham and Southwold as well parts of the wider Ipswich built-up area including Kesgrave, Martlesham and Woodbridge. Great Eastern Railway
The Great Eastern Railway (GER) was a pre-grouping British railway company, whose main line linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia. The company was grouped into the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Formed in 1862 after the amalgamation of the Eastern Counties Railway and several other smaller railway companies the GER served Cambridge, Chelmsford, Colchester, Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, King's Lynn, Lowestoft, Norwich, Southend-on-Sea (opened by the GER in 1889), and East Anglian seaside resorts such as Hunstanton (whose prosperity was largely a result of the GER's line being built) and Cromer. Wickham Market
Wickham Market is a large village and electoral ward situated in the River Deben valley of Suffolk, England, within the Suffolk Coastal heritage area. It is on the A12 trunk road north-east of the county town of Ipswich, north-east of Woodbridge. Its railway station is located approximately east at Campsea Ashe.
