HDMS ''Havfruen'' was a frigate of the Royal Danish Navy. Construction HDMS ''Havfruen'' was built at the Royal Dock Yard in Copenhagen to a design by Andreas Schifter. She was launched on 6 October 1825. She was one of four frigates in the same class. The others were HDMS ''Freya'' (1824-1853), (1835-1862) and (1838-1863). Christianshavn
Christianshavn (literally, "ingChristian's Harbour") is a neighbourhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. Part of the Indre By District, it is located on several artificial islands between the islands of Zealand and Amager and separated from the rest of the city centre by the Inner Harbour. It was founded in the early 17th century by Christian IV as part of his extension of the fortifications of Copenhagen. Originally, it was laid out as an independent privileged merchant's town with inspiration from Dutch cities but it was soon incorporated into Copenhagen proper. The Royal Danish Navy ( da, Søværnet) is the Naval warfare, sea-based branch of the Danish Defence force. Holmen, Copenhagen
() is a water-bound neighbourhood in Copenhagen, Denmark, occupying the former grounds of the Royal Naval Base and Dockyards. In spite of its name, deceptively in singular, Holmen is a congregation of small islands, forming a north-eastern extension of Christianshavn between Zealand and the northern tip of Amager. Holmen was created by a series of land reclamations to house the Holmen Naval Base after it was moved from Gammelholm and used to occupy the entire area, but activities have gradually been moved elsewhere. Since the early 1990s, the area has instead been redeveloped for other use as a new district of the city, while the remaining naval facilities are confined to the northernmost islet of Nyholm. Hans Puggaard
Hans Puggaard (3 September 1788 - 8 April 1866) was a Denmark, Danish merchant and shipowner who founded H. Puggaard & Co. in 1813. The company became a leading wholesaler of grain and was also active in the market for import of goods such as coffee and especially sugar. Puggaard was also an important philanthropist dedicating much of his fortune to social causes. Puggaard's wife, Bolette Puggaard née Hage, a daughter of Christopher Friedenreich Hage (1759–1849), Christopher Friedenreich Hage, was a painter. A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The term was applied loosely to ships varying greatly in design. In the second quarter of the 18th century, the 'true frigate' was developed in France. This type of vessel was characterised by possessing only one armed deck, with an unarmed deck below it used for berthing the crew. John Christmas (naval Officer)
John Christmas (3 February 1799 – 3 November 1873) was a Danish naval officer who later settled as a plantation owner on Saint Croix in the Danish West Indies. In 1871, he briefly served as acting Governor-General of the Danish West Indies. He was the paternal grandfather of writer Walter Christmas. Early life and education Christmas was born on 3 February 1799 in Copenhagen, the son of ship captain and general trader John Christmas and Johanne Maria Heinrich (1771–1808). His parents were divorced in 1803. His maternal grandfather was Johan Friedrich Heinrich. Peter Frederik Wulff
Peter Frederik (Friderich) Wulff (26 November 1774–2 February 1842) was a Danish naval officer. He headed the Royal Danish Naval Academy from 1824 to 1841. Wulff, his wife Henriette Wulf, and several of his children were loyal friends and supporters of the writer Hans Christian Andersen. Early life Wulff was born on 26 November 1774 in Copenhagen, the son of first lieutenant and later commander Frederik Christian Wulff (1749–1812) and Kirstine Johansen (1755–1829). He was the elder brother of Christian Wulff. Career Wulff enrolled as a voluntary cadet in 1780 and became a cadet in 1788.
