Gabriela DeBues-Stafford
Gabriela Maria DeBues-Stafford (née Stafford, born 13 September 1995) is a Canadian middle- and long-distance runner. A two-time Olympian, she placed fifth in the women's 1500 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. DeBues-Stafford holds the NACAC area record over the indoor 5000 metres, which she set in February 2022. She holds six Canadian national outdoor and indoor records over distances from the 1500 to 5000 metres. In addition, she won a silver medal at the 2015 Summer Universiade. Career Early career DeBues-Stafford was born in London, Ontario and grew up in Toronto. Her father James Stafford was a former competitive runner and represented Canada at four World Cross Country Championships. She and her younger sister Lucia initially trained in competitive Irish dancing, but DeBues-Stafford switched to running, subsequently joined by Lucia to spend more time with her father and sister. Athletics At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo. A total of 48 events were held, one more than in 2016, with the addition of a mixed relay event. The women's 1500 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place from 2 to 6 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. 45 athletes from 25 nations competed. Kenya's Faith Kipyegon successfully defended her Olympic title, to become one of only two women, along with Tatyana Kazankina, to win two Olympic 1500 metres titles. Athletics At The 2015 Summer Universiade – Women's 1500 Metres
The women's 1500 metres event at the 2015 Summer Universiade was held on 10 and 12 July at the Gwangju Universiade Main Stadium. Docus Ajok of Uganda was pulled out of the 1500 metres heats because of the close proximity to the 800 metres final to which she had originally advanced. However, she was later disqualified for a lane violation in the semifinal of that event and the organizers decided to let her compete in the 1500 metres final despite not appearing in the heats. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and " Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade will be officially branded as the FISU World University Games.
