Gavin St Pier
Gavin Scooter St Pier (born January 1967) is an elected Deputy in the States of Guernsey and former president of the Policy and Resources Committee. Political appointments He was elected at the general election on 18 April 2012 as a deputy for St Sampson's District. He served as Minister of Treasury and Resources from May 2012 – May 2016. He was re-elected at the 2016 General Election with a reduced vote. After the third secret ballot he was elected in May 2016 as president of the Policy and Resources Committee. In August 2020, St Pier formed the Guernsey Partnership of Independents party with Heidi Soulsby and Lyndon Trott. Heidi Soulsby is a British politician from the island of Guernsey. She has been a deputy of the States of Guernsey since the 2012 Guernsey general election and is the First female Deputy Chief Minister of Guernsey. Lyndon Trott (born 17 July 1964, St. Sampson, Guernsey) is an elected Deputy in the States of Guernsey and served as the Chief Minister of Guernsey from 2008 to 2012. Political appointments Deputy Trott has been a deputy in the States of Guernsey since 2000. Re-elected in 2004 and again in 2008. From 2004 until 2008 he was the Treasury and Resources Minister before being elected to the position of Chief Minister of Guernsey on 1 May 2008. His term of office expired on 30 April 2012. A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The 2020 Guernsey general election took place on 7 October 2020 to elect 38 members of the States of Guernsey. Originally scheduled to be held in June 2020, it was delayed a year to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic before being brought forward to its final date. This election was the first on the island to include political parties, as the first ones were organised and registered in 2020. On 16 October 2020, Peter Ferbrache was elected president of the Policy and Resources Committee by a vote of 23–17, ahead of incumbent Gavin St Pier.
