Guelph United Football Club is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Guelph, Ontario that plays in League1 Ontario. The women's team is known as Guelph Union and competes in the League1 Ontario women's division. Both teams play at the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium. History Men Guelph United F.C. was founded in 2020 by Keith Mason, Benny Mezezi, and Ami Mezezi, in partnership with the University of Guelph Gryphons, the Guelph Soccer Club, and the City of Guelph with the goal of bringing semi-professional soccer to the community. Guelph Gryphons head and assistant coaches Keith Mason and Justin Springer were announced as the team's associate coaches. Alumni Stadium (Guelph)
Alumni Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. It is home to the Guelph Gryphons varsity football team. It was built in 1970, and has a fixed seating capacity of approximately 8,500, including fixed seating and the grass hill on the east side of the stadium. On October 27, 2011, it was announced that the stadium would undergo an $18 million expansion and renovation that will bring fixed seating capacity up to 7,500. It was also announced that an eight-lane track would be installed as well as synthetic turf for the field. In addition to football the Gryphons soccer teams also play their home games at the stadium. In November 2012, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced they had reached a memorandum of understanding with the university to use Alumni Stadium as their temporary home in 2013 while Tim Hortons Field was constructed. Marcel Zajac
Marcel Dominik Zajac (born April 29, 1998) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for League1 Ontario club Vaughan Azzurri. Early life Zajac was born in Toronto to Polish parents, and later moved to Mississauga at age three. He began playing soccer at age six with local club Erin Mills SC. Afterwards, he joined the Sigma FC academy. College career In 2016, Zajac began attending the University of Akron, where he played for the men's soccer team on a scholarship. He scored his first collegiate goal on October 7, 2017 against the Buffalo Bulls. 2022 Women's League1 Ontario Season
The 2022 League1 Ontario season is the seventh season of play for Women's Division of League1 Ontario, a Division 3 women's soccer league in the Canadian soccer league system and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. NDC Ontario defeated Alliance United FC in the final to win the league championship. Don Ferguson (born January 2, 1963) is a Canadian soccer coach and former professional player. Club career At age 17, he began playing professionally in Portugal in their national soccer league. He then moved to England, where he joined first division club Luton Town. After leaving Luton he joined Welsh club Wrexham in the English fourth division, playing under non-contract terms in the 1985–86 season, making 20 appearances.
