Marcel Zajac
Marcel Dominik Zajac (born April 29, 1998) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward. Early life Zajac was born in Toronto to Polish parents, and later moved to Mississauga at age three. He began playing soccer at age six with local club Erin Mills SC. Afterwards, he joined the Sigma FC academy. College career In 2016, Zajac began attending the University of Akron, where he played for the men's soccer team on a scholarship. He scored his first collegiate goal on October 7, 2017 against the Buffalo Bulls. In 2018, he helped Akron win the Mid-American Conference title and was named MAC tournament MVP, as well as finishing as runner-ups for the NCAA National Tournament. He was named a Second Team All-MAC All-Star in 2018. He then spent some time training with Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew. Canadian Premier League Inaugural Match
The Canadian Premier League inaugural match was the first soccer match in the history of the Canadian Premier League (CPL). It was played April 27, 2019, in Hamilton, Ontario, before 17,611 fans between Forge FC and York9 FC (now known as York United FC). It was the first match of the 905 Derby. The match ended as a 1–1 draw. Ryan Telfer scored the CPL's first goal for York9 in the 3rd minute; Forge substitute Kadell Thomas equalized for Forge in the 78th minute. Background The Canadian Premier League (CPL) was approved and sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association as a tier 1 league on May 6, 2017. Haralambos "Bobby" Smyrniotis (born April 24, 1979) is a Canadian soccer coach and former player who works as head coach of Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League. Smyrniotis is the co-founder of the Sigma FC soccer academy based in Mississauga. Playing career Smyrniotis played for the College of Charleston and York University. Coaching career Early career In 2003 and 2004, Smyrniotis was a coach in the academy system of Olympiacos. He co-founded Sigma FC, and was the team's head coach from 2005 to 2018. Windsor City FC (formerly Windsor Border Stars, Windsor Stars, and Windsor TFC) is a Canadian soccer team, based in Windsor, Ontario, that plays in League1 Ontario.
