Gold Coast Rollers (QBL)
Gold Coast Rollers is a NBL1 North club based in Gold Coast, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Rollers play their home games at Carrara Indoor Stadium. Club history In 1959, the Gold Coast Amateur Basketball Association was established. The Queensland State Basketball League (QSBL) began in 1986, and in 1987, the Cougars men won their first championship. They went on to win their second title a year later, defeating the Townsville Suns in back-to-back grand finals. Following a Gold Coast Cougars team entering the National Basketball League in 1990, the club changed their name to Gold Coast Warriors. In 2020, Basketball Queensland partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Queensland. NBL1 replaced the former QBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Queensland. As a result, the QBL became the north conference of NBL1. Carrara Indoor Stadium
Carrara Indoor Stadium is a multi-purpose arena located at Carrara on Queensland's Gold Coast and can accommodate 1,600 fans, with additional seating provided if required which can push total capacity for events such as basketball up to 2,962. The stadium stands adjacent to the 25,000 seat Metricon Stadium and forms part of the Carrara Sports Complex. The stadium has the nickname The Greenhouse as even during winter it would get "Hot and steamy as Hades at times", although that changed with $800,000 worth of improvements in 1996 including new air conditioning. The stadium was the home of former National Basketball League team the Gold Coast Rollers who played there from 1990 until 1996, after which their licence was revoked due to financial struggles. Anthony Petrie
Anthony Petrie (born 3 June 1983) is an Australian basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 2007 and 2018. He is currently the head coach of the Gold Coast Rollers in the NBL1 North. Early life Petrie was born in Tenterfield, New South Wales. Alongside basketball, he grew up playing cricket, rugby league and athletics. Playing career NBL Petrie made his debut in the National Basketball League (NBL) for the West Sydney Razorbacks during the 2007–08 season. For the 2008–09 NBL season, he joined the Wollongong Hawks.
