NBL1 North
NBL1 North, formerly the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Queensland partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Queensland. NBL1 replaced the former QBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Queensland. As a result, the QBL became the north conference of NBL1. In 2022, the league will expanded into the Northern Territory with a club from Darwin. History The league was formed in 1986 as the Queensland State Basketball League. Gold Coast Rollers is a NBL1 North club based in Gold Coast, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Rollers play their home games at Carrara Indoor Stadium. The Queensland State Basketball League (QSBL) began in 1986, and in 1987, the Cougars men won their first championship. Logan City is a local government area situated within the south of the Brisbane metropolitan area in South East Queensland, Australia. Carrara Indoor Stadium
Carrara Indoor Stadium is a multi-purpose arena located at Carrara on Queensland's Gold Coast and can accommodate 1,600 fans, with additional seating provided if required which can push total capacity for events such as basketball up to 2,962. The stadium stands adjacent to the 25,000 seat Metricon Stadium and forms part of the Carrara Sports Complex. The stadium has the nickname The Greenhouse as even during winter it would get "Hot and steamy as Hades at times", although that changed with $800,000 worth of improvements in 1996 including new air conditioning. The stadium was the home of former National Basketball League team the Gold Coast Rollers who played there from 1990 until 1996, after which their licence was revoked due to financial struggles.
