Giulio Lega
Capitano Giulio Lega was a World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories. After finishing the war, he completed medical school, and began a near lifelong career caring for the Italian Chamber of Deputies. Early life and service Giulio Lega was born in Florence on 12 November 1892.Franks et al 1997, pp. 141-142. He was a medical student when he was accepted for officer's training in 1915. Because of his height, he became an "extended infantryman" in the Grenadiers. He went into action with their ''2o Reggimento'' and made his mark with them at the Fourth Battle of the Isonzo.Varriale 2009, pp. 41-42. On 20 November 1915, he was awarded the War Merit Cross for valor. Norman Leslie Robert Franks (born 1940) is an English militaria writer who specialises in aviation topics. He focuses on the pilots and squadrons of World Wars I and II. Biography He published his first book in 1976. He was an Organisation and Methods Officer with the Nationwide Building Society in London before he retired. He now lives in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, with his wife Heather. They have two sons, Rob and Mike, and five grandchildren. He was a consultant for the Channel 4 television series ''Dogfight: The Mystery of the Red Baron''. His 1995 book on the Red Baron has been published and reissued by three publishers. He is also one of the founding members of the Cross and Cockade society for World War I aviation historians, which was formed in 1970, and a member of Over the Front, the league of World War I aviation historians. An armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, as it may constitute only a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace. It is derived from the Latin ''arma'', meaning "arms" (as in weapons) and ''-stitium'', meaning "a stopping". Romolo Ticconi
Sergente Romolo Ticconi was a World War I flying ace credited with six aerial victories. Biography Romolo Ticconi was born in Acuto, the Kingdom of Italy, on 25 March 1893. Ticconi was conscripted into military service on 21 August 1914, before Italy had entered World War I. On 16 December 1916, he was promoted to '' Caporal''. On 20 September 1917, he was reported at the Italian aviation replacement depot as a Sergeant Pilot.Franks 1997, p. 261. On 27 January 1918, Ticconi joined a fighter squadron, ''76a Squadriglia''. He scored his first aerial victory on 3 May 1918, when he helped shoot down an enemy two-seater craft. Silvio Scaroni
Tenente Silvio Scaroni (12 May 1893 – 16 February 1977) was an Italian World War I fighter pilot credited with 26 victories. He was the second ranking Italian ace of the war. Early service Silvio Scaroni joined the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment of the Italian Army as a corporal. He was serving with that unit when World War I avalanched through the rest of Europe. On 2 August 1914, Italy announced its neutrality as sides formed up for the conflict. Aerial reconnaissance service Scaroni transferred to the Corpo Aeronautico Militare in March 1915. He began training to fly Bleriots and Caudrons shortly before Italy entered the war on the side of the Triple Entente on 26 April 1915.
