Giulia Adamo
Giulia Adamo (born in Marsala on 18 May 1949) is an Italian politician, who served as the President of the Province of Trapani from 1998 to 2005, and as the Mayor of Marsala between 2012 and 2014. Biography Early years Giulia Adamo had a classical education before moving on to the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the University of Palermo, where she studied at the Jesuit "Pedro Arrupe Institute", and from which she emerged with a degree. She married the distinguished physician-surgeon Giuseppe Spanò who died young. However, before that happened the marriage produced two daughters, Virginia and Eugenia. She embarked on a teaching career and then, in a competitive process, was promoted to the rank of head teacher. She worked first at the "Scuola Media Statale Alcide De Gasperi" (state school) and later at the "A. Damiani Technical Institute of Agriculture" in Marsala. Marsala
Marsala (, local ; la, Lilybaeum) is an Italian town located in the Province of Trapani in the westernmost part of Sicily. Marsala is the most populated town in its province and the fifth in Sicily. The town is famous for the docking of Giuseppe Garibaldi on 11 May 1860 (the ''Expedition of the Thousand'') and for its Marsala wine. A feature of the area is the Stagnone Lagoon Natural Reserve – a marine area with salt ponds. Marsala is built on the ruins of the ancient Carthaginian city of Lilybaeum, and includes in its territory the archaeological site of the island of Motya, an ancient Phoenician town. The modern name likely derived from the Arabic (''marsā ʿaliyy'', "Ali's harbor"), or possibly (''marsā llāh'', "God's harbor"). Gianfranco Miccichè
Gianfranco Miccichè (born 1 April 1954 in Palermo, Sicily) is an Italian politician. Biography Gianfranco Miccichè was born into a wealthy family of Palermo. He was business executive at the IRFIS company for eleven years. In 1984, thanks to the knowledge of Marcello Dell'Utri, he became executive of Publitalia '80, a company led by Silvio Berlusconi. In 1993, together with other men of Publitalia '80, he joined Forza Italia, of which he was appointed regional coordinator in Sicily. In the 1994 general election he was elected for the first time in the Chamber of Deputies and served as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport and Navigation in the Berlusconi I Cabinet. At the 1997 local elections he was candidate as mayor of Palermo for the Pole for Freedoms, but he was defeated by Leoluca Orlando. Castelvetrano
Castelvetrano ( scn, Castiḍḍuvitranu) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Trapani, Sicily, southern Italy. The archeological site of Selinunte is located within the municipal territory. The municipality borders with Campobello di Mazara, Mazara del Vallo, Menfi, Montevago, Partanna, Salemi and Santa Ninfa. History The first recorded mentions of Castelvetrano in the historical record date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Raffaele Lombardo ; (born 29 October 1950, in Catania) is an Italian politician who was President of Sicily and former Member of the European Parliament for Islands with the Movement for the Autonomies and has sat on the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. In 2005, he split off from the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats (UDC) to form the autonomist Sicilian-based Movement for Autonomy, after he had accused the UDC leadership of being too centralist.
