Giovanni Carboncino
Giovanni Carboncino (circa 1638-after 1703) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active between 1680 and 1692 mainly in Venice. He was born in Treviso, and became a pupil of Matteo Ponzone. He is also described as a imitator of Titian. He painted canvases for the church of San Nicolo in Treviso. Volume 2, by Domenico Maria Federici, page 99. Baroque
The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. In the territories of the Spanish and Portuguese empires including the Iberian Peninsula it continued, together with new styles, until the first decade of the 19th century. It followed Renaissance art and Mannerism and preceded the Rococo (in the past often referred to as "late Baroque") and Neoclassical styles. It was encouraged by the Catholic Church as a means to counter the simplicity and austerity of Protestant architecture, art, and music, though Lutheran Baroque art developed in parts of Europe as well. Matteo Ponzone
Matteo Ponzone (17th century) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active between 1630 and 1700 mainly in Venice. He was a pupil of Santo Peranda. Several of his works are in the churches and public buildings of Venice, particularly in San Giorgio Maggiore, and in the church of the "Padri Croceferi". Life According to several sources, Ponzone was born in Venice, identified as ''«Mathi et Simon fiol de noble Patron Claudio Bolzon et Agnesina Negro equal in Madonna»'' born in the parish of Saint Moses November 9, 1583. San Nicola A Tolentino
The Basilica of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino ( it, Basilica di San Nicola a Tolentino) is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica that is part of the Augustinian monastery in the hill-town of Tolentino, province of Macerata, Marche, central Italy. The church is a former cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tolentino, suppressed in 1586. Notably, it was the first minor basilica to be formally canonically created, by Pope Pius VI in the brief ''Supremus Ille'' in 1783. Prior to this, minor basilicas were created via immemorial custom.
