Gerardo Martínez (born 3 August 1969) is a Mexican former professional tennis player. Biography Martínez, who was born in Mexico City, turned professional in 1991 and specialised in doubles. A right-handed player, Martínez reached a best doubles ranking of 151 in the world, with his best ATP Tour performance a quarter-final appearance at the Athens Open in 1991. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. 1991 Pan American Games
The 1991 Pan American Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 2 to August 18, 1991. There were 4,519 athletes from 39 countries of the Pan American Sports Organization, PASO community, with events in 33 different sports. The main stadium was the Estadio Panamericano, Havana, Estadio Panamericano, a multi-use stadium in Havana that holds 50,000 people. Host city election Havana was the only non-withdrawn bid to host the 1991 Pan American Games. Oliver Fernández (tennis)
Oliver Fernandez (Orizaba, 7 December 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Mexico. He was captain of Mexico's Davis Cup side. Today he is a businessman. Career Fernandez had a good year on the juniors circuit in 1990, finishing the season as the number three junior in the world. He was runner-up to Andrei Medvedev in the Orange Bowl and made the semi-finals of the boys' singles event at the 1990 Australian Open. The man who beat him in the semi-final, Dirk Dier, had been his doubles partner when he made the 1989 US Open boys' doubles quarter-finals. Also in 1990, Fernandez represented the Mexico Davis Cup team for the first time. He managed to defeat Marcelo Filippini of Uruguay in Mexico's World Group player-off win and appeared in three further ties during his career, from which he had two wins, over Diego Pérez and then Jaime Yzaga.
