Georgios Simiriotis
Georgios Simiriotis ( el, Γεώργιος Σημηριώτης, 1886 - unknown) was a Greek tennis player, who won a silver medal in the mixed doubles event at the 1906 Intercalated Games. He also won multiple events in 1906 and 1908. Career At the 1906 Intercalated Games, Simiriotis competed with Sofia Marinou in the mixed doubles tennis event. They lost to eventual winners Max and Marie Decugis, and were awarded a silver medal. In the men's doubles event, Simiriotis and finished fourth, after losing their semi final match to and Xenophon Kasdaglis. In the men's singles event, he lost his quarter final match to Gerard Scheurleer. Simiriotis also took part in one of the fencing competitions at the Games. Esmée Simirioti ( el, Εσμέ Σημηριώτου; 1884 – 10 October 1982) was a Greek tennis player, who won the women's singles event at the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, Greece. Her name is sometimes translated as Esme Simiriotis. Career Simirioti competed for Greece in the tennis events at the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, Greece. Simirioti won the Women's singles event, beating fellow Greek Sofia Marinou in the final. She was the seventh youngest gold medallist at the games, at the age of 22 years and 116 days. Simirioti also competed in the mixed doubles event with , losing in the semi-finals. Simirioti later won the singles event in 1910 and 1914, and came second in 1924. Georgios Y. Zariphis ( el, Γεώργιος Ζαρίφης, tr, Yorgo Zarifi; 1810 – 28 March 1884), also known as Yorgo Zarifi, was a prominent Ottoman Greek banker and financier. He was also well known as a prominent benefactor of his time. Zariphis met Sultan Abdul Hamid II when the latter was a shahzade with a low expectation of ascending to the throne. The prince, having financial troubles, called on the expertise of Zariphis to manage his personal wealth. After Abdul Hamid II became sultan, he continued to utilize Zarifi's advisory services during the First Constitutional Era. Living at the time when the Ottoman Empire was in great financial distress and had declared bankruptcy, Zariphis was one of the Galata bankers who was involved in the Empire's debt raising. Gerard Scheurleer
Gerard Scheurleer (29 May 1886 – 11 October 1948), was a Dutch field hockey and tennis player who represented the Netherlands at the Intercalated Games. At the 1906 Intercalated Games he won his first three rounds of the singles event against Greek players to reach the semifinal which he lost to eventual gold medal winner Max Decugis. With compatriot Karel Beukema he also competed in the doubles event where they lost their first match, in the quarterfinal, against the French team and eventual gold medal winners Max Decugis and Maurice Germot. Scheurleer competed in three Wimbledon Championships between 1919 and 1926. After wins against A. Wallis Myers and Nicolae Mișu he reached the third round of the singles event at the 1920 Wimbledon Championships which he lost to Frank Jarvis in straight sets.
