Gaya (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration, IAST: ) is a city, municipal corporation and the administrative headquarters of Gaya district and Magadh division of the Indian state of Bihar. Gaya is south of Patna and is the state's List of cities in Bihar by population, second-largest city, with a population of 470,839. The city is surrounded on three sides by small, rocky hills (Mangla Gauri, Mangla-Gauri, Shringa-Sthan, Ram-Shila, and Brahmayoni), with the Phalgu, Phalgu River on its eastern side. It is a city of historical significance and is one of the major tourist attractions in India. Gaya is sanctified in the Jain, Hindu, and Buddhist religions. Mangla Gauri Temple () is a Hindu temple and Shakta pitha, in Gaya, Bihar, India was mentioned in Padma Purana, Vayu Purana and Agni Purana and Devi Bhagvata Purana and Markandeya Purana in other scriptures and tantric works. The International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST) is a transliteration scheme that allows the lossless romanisation of Indic scripts as employed by Sanskrit and related Indic languages. Gaya International Airport is an international airport serving Gaya, Bihar, India. It is located south-west of Gaya and from Bodh Gaya, from where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. Overview The airport is spread over an area of 954 acres. Magahi (), also known as Magadhi (), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal states of eastern India, and in the Terai region of Nepal. Magadhi Prakrit was the ancestor of Magahi, from which the latter's name derives. It has a very rich and old tradition of folk songs and stories.
