World War II was by far the deadliest conflict in human history; it resulted in 70 to 85 million fatalities, mostly among civilians. It was incorporated by the U.S. Congress in 1866 as a transcontinental railroad connecting Springfield, Missouri and Van Buren, Arkansas with California.
