Gaeil Colmcille CLG is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Kells, County Meath, Ireland. The club currently plays at senior level in the Meath Senior Football Championship and play their home games at Grangegodden and Pairc Colmcille. History The club was founded in 1964 and had almost immediate success, reaching the Meath Senior Football final in 1964 but lost by 2 points to Kilbride GFC 0-08 to 0-06. In 1966 the club won the Meath Senior Football Championship for the first time beating Kilbride 0-08 to 0-06 after the teams couldn't be separated after two previous games. They won their second title in 1968 beating Walterstown in the final 3-17 to 1-04. They won their third and most recent Senior Football Championship in 1991, when they defeated Walterstown again in the final by 1-12 to 1-06, Terry Ferguson captaining the side that day, with Eugene McGillick picking up the Man of the Match award. The Meath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Meath, Ireland. Qualification for subsequent competitions The winners of the Meath Senior Football Championship winners qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Competition format From 2020, 16 teams compete in the championship, with four groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group qualify for the quarter-finals. Meath Junior Football Championship
The Meath Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Meath GAA clubs. The winner of this championship will be promoted to the Intermediate division. The winner also represents Meath in the Leinster Junior Club Football Championship. The 2021 Meath Junior Football Championship was won by St Vincent's, who defeated Dunsany in the final 1-4 to 0-6. Competition format Up until 1971, the Junior 'A' winners played against the Junior 'B' winners in the Junior Championship final, even though the teams involved in the final had played in different grades of football throughout the season. The tournament consists of 13 teams. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. This season saw Seneschalstown's debut in the top flight after claiming the 1967 Meath Intermediate Football Championship title. Kilbride were the defending champions after they defeated Navan O'Mahonys in the previous years final, however this year they failed to make it past the group phase. Meath Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association second-tier competition between Gaelic football clubs organised by Meath GAA.
