Finland In The Eurovision Song Contest 1978
Finland was represented by Seija Simola, with the song "Anna rakkaudelle tilaisuus", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 24 April in Paris. Before Eurovision National final The Finnish national final was held on February 11th at the YLE TV Studios in Tampere. The final was hosted by Klaus Thomasson. For the first time since 1966 the conductor in the national final was not Ossi Runne but Risto Hiltunen instead. The winner was chosen by regional juries. At Eurovision On the night of the final Simola performed fourth in the running order following Italy and preceding Portugal. The Finnish entry was conducted by Ossi Runne. Finland received two points from Norway and placed joint 18th (with Turkey) of the 20 entries. Seija Simola
Seija Saara Maria Simola (25 September 1944 Helsinki – 21 August 2017 Vantaa), married Franzén, was a Finnish singer. She began her career musical in the mid-1960s in the band Eero Seija & Kristian Trio, and her debut solo album was released in 1970: ''Seija Simola 1''. The 1970s would be her most successful decade. In 1978, she represented Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) at the Eurovision Song Contest 1978. There she performed the entry '' Anna rakkaudelle tilaisuus (Give love a chance)'', on 22 April 1978. The song finished in the 18th position with a total of two points. The Eurovision Song Contest 1978 was the 23rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Paris, France, following the country's victory at the with the song " L'Oiseau et l'Enfant" by Marie Myriam. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Télévision Française 1 (TF1), the contest was held at the Palais des Congrès on 22 April 1978 and was hosted by French television presenters Denise Fabre and Léon Zitrone. This was the first time that more than one presenter had hosted the contest as well as the first to have a male presenter since . In addition to hosting, the two presenters also served as commentators for France. Eino Mauno Virtanen (19 August 1908 in Uskela – 3 December 1980 in Helsinki) was a Finnish wrestler who took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and 1948 Games in London. Lea Laven
Lea Laven (née Luukinen; after that Marjanen, Forssell and Tulonen; born 19 June 1948, Haukipudas) is a Finland, Finnish pop singer. Laven grew up in meager circumstances in the small town of Haukipudas: she began singing in shows while in school and as a teenager began participating in talent competitions. After completing her schooling she lived for a time in Sweden where she worked as a domestic in hotels and nursing homes. In 1966 while back in Finland for an intended visit Laven attended a dance where Pentti Oskari Kangas was playing: Laven asked to sing with his band and the reaction resulted in her being recruited as a vocalist. When not performing with the band Laven worked at a textile mill in the town of Rauma, Finland, Rauma which was Kangas' home base. Terttu Anneli Orvokki Saaristo (born 15 February 1949) is a Finnish singer and actress, best known internationally for her participation in the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Saaristo was born in Jokioinen. She spent the 1970s performing in singing competitions and worked as a dance orchestra singer. Her first album was released in 1980.
