From The Basement
''From the Basement'' is a web television series created by Nigel Godrich and producer Dilly Gent. It features live music performances without a host or audience. Development In September 2006, it was announced that Godrich, along with producer Dilly Gent, producer James Chads and John Woollcombe were shooting the music series ''From the Basement'', filmed from London's Maida Vale Studios. Godrich took inspiration from ''The Old Grey Whistle Test'', a BBC music television series that broadcast in the 1970s and 1980s, and the 1996 concert film '' Rock and Roll Circus'', which documents concerts by the Rolling Stones and other acts. Nigel Godrich
Nigel Timothy Godrich (born 28 February 1971) is an English record producer, recording engineer and musician. He is known for his work with the English rock band Radiohead, having produced all their studio albums since '' OK Computer'' (1997). He has also produced several projects by the Radiohead singer, Thom Yorke. He is a member of Atoms for Peace (with Yorke) and Ultraísta. Early in his career, Godrich worked as the house engineer at RAK Studios, London, under the producer John Leckie. He met Radiohead while working at RAK on their second album, '' The Bends'' (1995), for which he received his first production credit. Radiohead hired him to produce their next album, ''OK Computer'', which was a major success and brought him attention from major artists. ''In Rainbows – From the Basement'' is a 2008 live video by the English rock band Radiohead. It features performances of ten songs from Radiohead's seventh album, ''In Rainbows'' (2007), plus four older songs. Production ''In Rainbows – From the Basement'' was filmed in one day, with sound by Radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich and video direction by David Barnard at the Hospital studio in Covent Garden, London. It was the first episode of the second series of Godrich's series ''From the Basement''. Radiohead performed songs from their 2007 album ''In Rainbows,'' plus three from ''Hail to the Thief'' (2003) and one from ''Kid A'' (2000). Steve Reid (January 29, 1944 – April 13, 2010) was an American jazz drummer who played with Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, James Brown, Fela Kuti, Kieran Hebden, and Sun Ra. He worked as a session drummer for Motown. Biography Born in the South Bronx, Reid started drumming at 16. His family moved to Queens, New York, three blocks away from John Coltrane. Before attending Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, he worked as part of the Apollo Theatre House Band and recorded with Martha and the Vandellas under the direction of Quincy Jones. In 1969, Reid refused to register for the draft during the Vietnam War. He was arrested as a conscientious objector and sentenced to a four-year prison sentence at Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary, where he served with Jimmy Hoffa. Kieran Hebden (born September 1977), known as Four Tet, is an English electronic musician. He came to prominence as a member of the post-rock band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist with charting UK albums such as '' Rounds'' (2003) and ''Everything Ecstatic'' (2005). In addition to his eleven studio albums as Four Tet, Hebden's work includes a number of improvisational works with jazz drummer Steve Reid and collaborations with Burial and Thom Yorke. The White Stripes
The White Stripes were an American rock duo from Detroit formed in 1997. The group consisted of Jack White (songwriter, vocals, guitar, piano, and mandolin) and Meg White (drums and vocals). ''In Rainbows'' is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Radiohead. It was self-released on 10 October 2007 as a pay-what-you-want download, followed by a physical release internationally through XL Recordings and in North America through TBD Records.
