The Franz Marc Museum is a museum located in Kochel am See, Upper Bavaria, dedicated to German Expressionist painter Franz Marc. The museum shows paintings by Franz Marc, and also works of art of his contemporaries and other important artists of the 20th century, in a permanent and in temporary exhibitions. History The Franz Marc Museum is a private institution, which was founded in 1986 to present the life and work of Marc, one of the most important artists of Bavaria in the 20th century, in the place where he lived and which gave him so much inspiration. Per Kirkeby
Per Kirkeby (1 September 1938 – 9 May 2018) was a Danish painter, poet, film maker and sculptor. Biography By the time Kirkeby completed a masters degree in arctic geology at the University of Copenhagen in 1964, he was already part of the important experimental art school " eks-skolen." His interest in geology and other aspects of the natural world was fundamental to and characteristic of his art. Kirkeby worked as a painter, sculptor, writer, and printmaker. Kirkeby taught as a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (1978–89) and at Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main (1989–2000). Per Kirkeby was a member of the Danish Academy from 1982. In 1997 he became a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. Willi Baumeister
Willi Baumeister (22 January 1889 – 31 August 1955) was a German painter, scenic designer, art professor, and typographer. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1932 Summer Olympics. Life Born in Stuttgart in 1889, Baumeister completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter in his native city from 1905 to 1907, followed by military service (fall 1907–1908). During his apprenticeship, Baumeister also began art studies at the Stuttgart Art Academy (Königlich Württembergische Akademie) (1905–1906), attended Robert Poetzelberger’s drawing class, and took additional lessons from Josef Kerschensteiner. In 1906 he resumed his apprenticeship and, in 1907, completed the trade test. Following his military service, Baumeister continued his studies at the art academy. Two Women On The Hillside
''Two Women on the Hillside'' is an oil-on-canvas painting created in 1906 by German painter Franz Marc. It is part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections and is on a permanent loan at the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See. History Marc met the fellow painters Marie Schnür and Maria Marc, Maria Franck in 1905, who would both later become his wives. He spent the summer of 1906 in Kochel. He painted the women at outdoors on an alpine pasture. He first made the current small oil sketch, from which he later painted a large-format oil painting. On August 1, 1906, he wrote to Maria Marc, Maria Franck: “The picture of you two has already been drawn.” Later he cut up the large painting. It is one of the painter's earliest known paintings and is part of the collection of the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See. Lenbachhaus
The Lenbachhaus () is a building housing an art museum in Munich's '' Kunstareal''. The building The Lenbachhaus was built as a Florentine-style villa for the painter Franz von Lenbach between 1887 and 1891 by Gabriel von Seidl and was expanded 1927–1929 by Hans Grässel and again 1969–1972 by Heinrich Volbehr and Rudolf Thönnessen. Some of the rooms have kept their original design. The city of Munich acquired the building in 1924 and opened a museum there in 1929. The latest wing was closed to the public in 2009 to allow the expansion and restoration of the Lenbachhaus by Norman Foster; the 1972 extension was demolished to make way for the new building. Museum Der Phantasie
The Museum der Phantasie (aka. Buchheim-Museum) is a museum in Bernried am Starnberger See. Named after Lothar-Günther Buchheim, whose art collection it holds, it was opened to the public on 23 May 2001. Buchheim is also the author of the best-selling book Das Boot (novel), ''Das Boot''. The building, designed by the architectural firm Behnisch Architekten, Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner, was completed in October 1999. It encompasses around 4,000 square meters and is designed to resemble a ship, with a jetty-like balcony extending out over the Starnberger See. In the surrounding park various sculptures are displayed. Before the museum was built there were many differences of opinion about the location.
