Flag Of Prince Edward Island
The flag of Prince Edward Island consists of a golden Lion (heraldry), lion passant on a red field in the upper portion and a white field Defacement (flag), defaced with three oak saplings and a large oak tree on a green island in the bottom portion. This is bordered on three edges other than the Hoist (flag), hoist by a fimbriation of alternating red and white rectangles. Adopted in 1964 in the run-up to the Canadian Centennial, it has been the flag of Prince Edward Island, the province since March 24 of that year. It is a banner of arms modelled after the Coat of arms of Prince Edward Island, province's coat of arms. Lion (heraldry)
The lion is a common charge in heraldry. It traditionally symbolises courage, nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness and valour, because historically the lion has been regarded as the "king of beasts". Charlottetown Conference
The Charlottetown Conference (Canada's Conference) was held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for representatives from colonies of British North America to discuss Canadian Confederation. The conference took place between September 1 through 9, 1864. The conference had been planned as a meeting of representatives from the Maritime colonies; Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland agreed with the movement, but was not notified in time to take part in the proceedings.
