Exeter Hawks
The Exeter Hawks are a Junior ice hockey team based in Exeter, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association. History The Exeter Hawks were founded in 1961 as members of the Shamrock Junior D Hockey League. In the late sixties, the Hawks jumped to the Bluewater Junior Hockey League for a short stint. In 1969, the Shamrock league changed its name to the Western Junior D Hockey League. In 1970–71, the Hawks won the Western League and made it all the way to the OHA provincial championship. They met another junior team from Haliburton, Ontario from the South Central Junior D Hockey League. Haliburton defeated the Hawks 4-games-to-3. A season later, the Hawks again won the Western League and found themselves against an Eastern Ontario representative from Bancroft, Ontario in the provincial final. Provincial Junior Hockey League
The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) is a Canadian junior ice hockey league spanning parts of Southern Ontario. The PJHL is the third tier of the Ontario Hockey Association and is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada. The league was formed in 2016 with the merging of eight Junior C leagues. PJHL teams compete for the Clarence Schmalz Cup. History In the works since 2014, it was announced in the spring of 2016 that the eight Junior C leagues of the Ontario Hockey Association would merge for the 2016-17 season to create the Provincial Junior Hockey League. The union was in an effort to streamline rules across the classification and to promote growth and development. Stayner Siskins
The Stayner Siskins are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Stayner, Ontario. They were members of the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League until 2016 when it merged into the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The Stayner Siskins began their journey in 1972 as a member of the South-Central Junior D Hockey League. The next year, the league was promoted and became the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In these early years, the Siskins were not overly successful in their league, but during the playoff were sent out to represent the league in the All-Ontario Junior "D" playdowns for the Ontario Hockey Association Cup. The Siskins first appearance in the All-Ontario Junior D championship came during the 1973-74 season. Wellesley Applejacks
The Wellesley Apple Jacks are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Wellesley, Ontario. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association. History The Wellesley Apple Jacks joined the Western Junior D Hockey League in 1987. A year later, the Western League absorbed the Southern Junior D Hockey League. They operated under the Western moniker for three more years. In 1991, the Western League was dissolved and the OHA Junior Development League was created. At this time, the Apple Jacks turned into a team to reckon with. Lucan Irish
The Lucan Irish are a Junior ice hockey team based in Lucan Biddulph, Ontario. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association. History The Irish were founded in 1968 as the Lucan Irish Six, named after the Black Donnellys. In 1982, the Irish won the Western Ontario Junior D Hockey League's championship. They went on to defeat the Langton Thunderbirds of the Southern Counties Junior D Hockey League 4-games-to-1 to win the OHA Cup as provincial champions. In 1987, the Irish again won the Western Junior D's playoff title. They defeated the Tavistock Braves of the Southern Counties Junior D league 4-games-to-3 to win the OHA Cup for the second time as provincial champions. Grimsby Peach Kings
The Grimsby Peach Kings are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team from Grimsby, Ontario and play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History One of the oldest hockey clubs in Ontario, the Peach Kings officially joined the Ontario Hockey Association in 1922, however the "Peach Kings" moniker had been used for local sports teams for several decades prior. The name refers to Grimsby's unique ability to cultivate peaches, a fruit that cannot be farmed without proper conditions. Grimsby's location between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment plus soil types allow for this. In the early 1920s Col. Roberts had built a large cold storage facility for fruit in the summer that had ample capacity to make ice in the winter. In turn, work began on an arena in the summer of 1921. Aylmer Spitfires
The Aylmer Spitfires are a Canadian junior hockey team based in Aylmer, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The franchise began in Tillsonburg as a Junior B team in 1974, first known as the Mavericks, then as the Titans from 1985 to 1991. In 1991, the franchise was moved to Aylmer and was named the Aylmer Aces. In 2003, the team dropped to Junior C as the Aylmer Spitfires. The Port Stanley Sailors are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Port Stanley, Ontario. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The Sailors were formerly known as the Belmont Bombers, playing their last season as the Bombers in 05-06. Prior to the 06-07 season, they changed their name to the Central Elgin Express. This was done as the team was going to be splitting their home games between Belmont and Port Stanley. The Essex 73's are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Essex, Ontario. The 73's are members of the Provincial Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey Association. Prior to becoming members of the PJHL in 2016 the 73's won the GLJHL playoff championship 20 times and the Clarence Schmalz Cup as Provincial Junior C Champions 7 times. History The Essex 73's have competed in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League since the 1973–74 season. In total, the club has won 20 Great Lakes Junior C League Championships and 7 All-Ontario Junior C titles. By both measures, they are the most successful team in Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League history. The Dorchester Dolphins are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Dorchester, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. History The Dolphins are the namesake of the town's long running tradition in intermediate and senior hockey. The Dolphins played their first ever hockey game on September 14, 2012, at home against the Lucan Irish. The Dolphins were victorious, 6–5. Brendon O'Shaughnessy scored both the first and second goals in team history for the Dolphins against the Irish and Alex Hutcheson made 31 saves on 36 shots to pick up the first ever win. The Mount Brydges Bulldogs are a Junior ice hockey team based in Mount Brydges, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League and are three-time provincial champions. History The Mount Brydges Bulldogs were founded in 1975 as members of the Western Junior D Hockey League. The 1983–84 season saw the Bulldogs pull off a 22–7–5 record, which led them on to win their first Western league championship, despite competition from the Exeter Hawks who only suffered a total of two losses during the regular season.
