Espoo United (basketball)
Espoo United is a professional basketball club based in Espoo, Finland. The team is part of the multi-sports club Espoo, which also had an Espoo United (ice hockey), ice hockey section. The club was founded in 2016 and entered the first division Korisliiga in 2017. However, despite a first season in the top tier, the club was expelled due to financial irregularities. Espoo Metro Areena
Espoo Metro Areena (known from 1999 to January 2009 as LänsiAuto Areena, and from 2009 to October 2015 as Barona Areena) is an arena in the Tapiola District of Espoo, Finland. It is part of the '' Tapiolan Urheilupuisto'' (Tapiola Sports Park). It was inaugurated in 1999 and holds 6,982 people for ice-hockey games or 8,582 for concerts. In late October and early November 2022, it served as the leading venue for the 2022 World Ringette Championships. Espoo Metro Areena has been primarily used for ice hockey and it was the home arena of the Espoo Blues of the Liiga from 1999 to 2016 and of Espoo United of the Mestis from 2016 until the franchise was dissolved in 2018. Espoo
Espoo (, ; sv, Esbo) is a city and municipality in the region of Uusimaa in the Republic of Finland. Espoo United was a Finnish semi-professional ice hockey team that played in the Mestis. The team was formed by Jussi Salonoja after the Espoo Blues went bankrupt in 2016. United went bankrupt themselves after the 2017–18 season. Korisliiga
The Korisliiga is the top-tier professional basketball league in Finland, comprising the top 12 teams of the country. In its current format, each team plays all other teams two times in the regular season, once at home and once away, for a total of 22 regular season games. The top six teams advances continues to upper stage and the bottom six teams plays lower stage after 22 games, 5 games at home and 5 games at away versus all other teams in stage. The best two teams from lower group joins to playoffs with upper group teams. Playoffs are played best of seven format, except the quarter-finals which are played best of 5 format. 2017–18 Korisliiga Season
The 2017–18 Korisliiga season was the 78th season of the top professional basketball league in Finland. The season started on 28 September 2017 and ended on 18 May 2018. Kataja Basket were the defending champions, but Kauhajoki Karhu achieved their first title ever. Format The eleven teams will play four teams against each one of the other teams for a total of 40 games. The eight best qualified teams will join the playoffs. Teams Espoo United promoted from First Division and no team was relegated. Regular season Standings Playoffs The quarter-finals and semi-finals were played in a best-of-three 1–1–1–1–1 format. The finals were played in a best-of-seven playoff format.
